JAIL SENTENCES LADLED OUT TO BOOZE VENDORS l-ittle Mercy Is Shown to ’Leggers as They Face Municipal Judge. Hooch dealers found the highway through Municipal Judge William *H. ShcafTer’s court paved with many-edged stones today as fines and Jail and penal farm sentences were rapped off the judge's gavel without a break. Protest of an attorney for George Eads that his house had been searched before the search warrant was read availed nothing when Lieutenant Ralph Dean said he read the warrant outside the house to Mrs. Eads before any policemen entered. While re-reading it inside the house. Sergeant Arthur Haney intercepted Eads’ daughter who poured alcohol down a sink, it was charged. Sergeant Haney took a sample from the drain pipe. Eads was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced to thirty days in jail. Fine, Sentence Suspended Albert Hall. 210 West Walnut street, pleaded guilty to possession of liquor. He was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced to thirty days on the state farm. Fine and sentence were suspended. Emmett Williams, 731 West, Walnut street, told the court his wife had been ill in bed ten weeks, but failed to obtain any mercy when convicted of a blind tiger charge. The reason: His record showed a previous liquor conviction. The fine of SIOO was suspended, but Williams was ordered to pay S3O costs and serve sixty days on the farm. Billy Grimes, Negro, 618 Ogden ttrept, was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced to sixty days on the farm rn blind tiger charges; Walter Followed, 943 Park avenue, was fined $25 and costs and sentenced to thirty days on the farm for drunken driving and fined $lO and costs for drunkenness, and Mrs. Mary Colbert, Negro, 620 Ogden street, was dismissed as a vagrant. Woman Gets 30 Days A police squad made the arrests after watching alleged bootlegging by Grimes. Mrs. Edith Hedge, 1227 Park avenue. Apt. 7, admitted ownership Os a quantity of liquor taken in a raid on her apartment, and was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced to thirty days in the Indiana woman’s prison. When raiding officers entered they saw her daughter pour a quart of alcohol on the floor, but mopped up samples. Mrs. Hedge said the liquor was for a private party she intended to give the night of the raid.
