TAPS SOUNDED AT HOME FOB AGED VETERANS David Stephens, 81, Dies at Danville, III.; Davis Rites Are Set. Taps sounded Thursday for another of Marion county’s Civil war veterans, and several residents of the city who had passed the midcentury mark died here. Body of David Stephens, 81, was to be returned from the United States soldiers home at Danville, 111-, foi funeral and burial here. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Mr. Stephens died in the home, where he went two weeks ago. Survivors are the three daughters and a son. Davis Rites Saturday Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday at the home of Edgar Lee Davis, 58, of 2263 North Delaware street, resident of the city tlrirty years, who died Thursday. A graduate of De Pauw university, Mr. Davis was American Red Cross field director in eastern Kentucky many years. The widow, two sons, four brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren survive him. Funeral services will be held at 2 Saturday afternoon for Eugene E. Bruce, 62, an Indianapolis policeman twenty-one years, who died at his home, 2850 East Washington street, Thursday morning. The widow, Mrs. j Delilah Rubottom is his only surv or. EXHIBITORS DISCUSS AID Show Directors Study Methods to Aid Unemployment. For discussion of methods by j which the show may aid the unemployment situation, a special joint meeting of the board of directors and exhibitors of the annual AllIndiana Industrial Exposition will be held tonight in the Roosevelt building offices of the board. Exposition directors already have pledged aid by voting to give onehalf of the gate receipts to the general unemployment fund, the money to be distributed as relief officials see fit. The industrial show board is composed of Marshall T. Levey, chairman; W. F. Kruger, E. S. Harter and W. E. Williams. The last portrait of Hisashi Fujimura, wealthy Japanese importer, was this sketch made on the night he mysteriously vanished from the liner Belgenland before the ship docked in New York. The drawing is the W'ork of a staff artist aboard the liner and was found in Fujimura’s cabin. Federal authorities are investigating the importer’s disappearance during a Halifax cruise. LULL IN CITY’S CRIME WORRIES WAITIN6POLICE ‘Just Calm Before Storm,’ Old-Timers Say of Quiet. Apprehensions, bugaboos, hunches and “bad signs’’ held sway today at police headquarters. Day and night for the last week, police officers and detectives have watched the city’s crime decrease, until today an ominous stillness | prevails. Feet are on desks and an electric i current of expectancy makes the ' already oppressive atmosphere of the ! police station doubly oppressive. Old-timers is the police business admit they are worried. Take Captain Ed Helm, who for twenty-five years, has seen the ups and downs of crime and its puri suit. “Boys, there’s always a lull before the storm,” he says. “This peace and quiet means no good for anybody.” Fred Simon, detective chief, has had some business this week with alleged bandits captured and a murder suspect held for several hours. “But that’s not enough,” he mourned. “It’s too quiet to last. There’s something wrong some place. This is a bad time for all this quiet.” However, Police Chief Mike Morrissey has the idea that the depression has something to do with the depression in crime. “I think the crooks are ashamed
