NEWS OF THE CITY’S BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIAL FIRMS
STEADY GROWTH IS REPORTED DY INSURANCE FIRM Indianapolis Company Has $23,000,000 in Force in Home City. It always Is a matter of great satisfaction to the people of Indianapolis to note the growth of home institutions. Probably nowhere else are the pride and satisfaction taken in local enterprises more in evidence. The growth of the Indianapolis Life Insurance Company, therefore, is very gratifying to the community. Starting in 1905, the company has had a quarter century of steady advancement, until today it has $23,000,000 insurance in force in the city of Indianapolis, and $47,000,000 in the state of Indiana. This, in itself, is a compliment to the company. When local men who know the personnel of the institution are glad to avail themselves of its policies and willing to participate as owners in the company, no further evidence can be asked of its reliability and high standard of management. President Frank P. Manly is gratified with the last six mopths’ business, which has shown a most satisfactory growth. In fact, May was the largest month in the history of the company. In the last six months the company gained in insurance in force $3,165,396.65 and in assets $995,022.92. In this time it paid dividends to policy holders amounting to $240,706, and death claims of $180,466.54. As an evidence of the care with which the affairs of the company are managed, the deaths were only 40 per cent of the normal expectations. The company offers a number of most attractive contracts and policies, giving a simple low cost family protection for the future in the form of endowment policies, retirement annuities, or investment income bonds, with many -variations in the forms of the policies to fit individual needs.

Bullet-Proof Equipment Installed on Police Cars by Local Company

Lines of Officers Guarded in Pursuing Autos of Armed Criminals. The last word in protection for law enforcement officers is provided by bullet-proof automobile equipment being installed on many police and sheriff’s cars by the Perfection Windshield Company, 25 West Pratt street. The number of cars being provided with this equipment indicates that law enforcement officers are awakening to the fact that they are entitled to protection while protecting the public against bank robbers rum runners and other criminals, most of whom will not hesitate to shoot to kill in seeking to escape. A car equipped as shown above, with bullet-proof windshield including a. gunport, bullet-proof side wings, radiator and tire protectors,* enables an officer to make an honest effort to catch criminals against whom they are powerless otherwise. Costs Mere Trifle The expense of such equipment is a mere trifle compared to the protection it affords officers, in addition to increased results in law enforcement. The Indianapolis police department has six cars equipped with bullet-proof windshields. Among other communities obtaining similar protection for their police officers and sheriffs are Terre Haute, Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Lafayette, Shelbyville, Newcastle, Kokomon, Peru, Richmond, Rushville, Columbus and Connersville. The lives of police officers and sheriffs, daily taking risks to protect the public welfare, are worth many times the small cost of providing one or more cars with this equipment, according to C. F. Eckler, Perfection Windshield Company president. Prorides Evpn Break “These officers are expected to go out and catch bandits and other criminals that are infesting the country,” Eckler said. * “Ordinarily the criminal’s car is better equipped for a gun battle than that of the pursuing officers, and the criminal will not hesitate to shoot to kill. “Surely the taxpayers don’t expect the officers to pursue these criminals with nothing for protection but a plate glass windshield which not only wiU not stop bullets but will shatter and may injure the officers seriously. “A car with full bullet-proof equipment gives the law enforcement officer a fair break against the criminal.” Tattooing certain marks on the body is regarded in Burma as a sure shield against being.killed in warfare.

AUTO RADIATOR LEAK MAY MAR VACATIONER Clogged Cooling System Is Frequent Cause of Motor Trouble. Many vacation trips planned far in advance have been ruined because of a clogged or leaky automobile radiator. Many of the troubles so common to motors in automobiles can be traced to clogged radiators. If water can not circulate because of rust, slime, sludge or oil, the motor runs hot, breaking down the oil in the crank case regardless of how good j it may be or when it was put in, ! and burned out bearings are the ! direct result. , Experts, after repairing hundreds of motors with this trouble and tearing apart hundreds of radiators, say that many burned out bearings attributed to poor oil or lack of sufficient oil, really can be traced to clogged radiators. Because of the ever presence of some form of radiator doggers, the cooling system of a car should be flushed often, at periodic intervals, ; according to the Reed-Mueller ' Radiator Company, 111-119 Kenjtucky avenue. Because of the vital importance of properly cleaning radiators, and in order to give its many patrons a thorough job of radiator cleaning, ■ the Reed-Mueller Company has inI stalled the most modern equipment. By means of a patented ejector j the regular water and air lines are hooked together and through the application of intense air pressure the water is agitated until every par- ! tide of radiator clog is removed. The system is harmless to rubber, metal finish and hands, and is a service that if obtained periodically I will save money in repair bills. Before starting on that motor trip while having the family car tuned up, include in the work a ReedMueller radiator cleansing. It means a smoother working motor on the vacation trip. To learn more of this efficient service call LI. 5192, City and County Clash By Times Special MARION, Ind., Aug. 22. Whether the city of Marion or Grant County has jurisdiction over the long - disputed area surrounding the county courthouse will be settled in a test case here before Judge Oren W. Dickey in superior court. The city passed an ordinance prohibiting peddlers j from dispensing their wares in the area. County commissioners instructed peddlers to proceed with their business. Affidavits against the peddlers followed, and after twenty years of haranguing the city and county are at last at grips over the area, Tax Rate Lowered By Times Special FRANKLIN, Ind., Aug. 22.—The city tax rate for 1932 will be 89 cents, a reduction of 5 cents, despite ; a $300,000 decrease in tax valuation.

Ice Keeps Food Pure , Aids Health] “More than 12.000.000 families can't be wrong.” This was the comment of Henry L. Dithmer, Polar Ice and Fuel Company president, in discussing the value of ice in the home. “These 12.000,000 families insist upon having ice in their homes, and the standard of living in these homes is high,” Ditnmer explained. “Ice does most of the refrigeration business of the nation: it is the popular refrigerant for every day in the year. “Ice easily maintains temperatures below 50 degrees and keeps cold, fresh air constantly in circulation without drying out food. When ice refrigeration is Employed, j foods retain their natural flavors and savory juices. “Ice, being automatic in action, is safe and no trouble at all. And when all the costs are itemized, added and compared, it will be j found that ice refrigeration costs: less than any other kind. For the I few cents that ice costs, it certainly | is not worth doing without refriger- ; attion at any time. “With such an inexpensive and ; versatile servant so easily available j it is/false economy to be without it. i From the time ice is put in the I refrigerator until it ,is entirely i melted, it works silently, incessantly ! and automatically to keep food appetizing and safe. “Ice never needs attention: no one questions its safety of operation. It | is fool-proof and never gets out of I order. ‘“Like a good many other things j all enjoy, we are likely to forget the advantages of ice, and it is well to think sometimes of what it has meant in all the years past and can * mean in all the years to come.” i The Polar Ice and Fuel Company ! makes, wholesales and retails ice from the most complete ice making plant in Indiana. It delivers ice from its own trucks and has stations all over the city I for the convenience of its patrons. v H,GH MASON succumbs William Ferguson Funeral Will Be Held at Ft.
