DAIRY MEN ACT TO END PRICE CUTTING WAR Disastrous Competition Will Be Halted, County Agent Declares. Organization and co-operation of Marion county milk producers and distributors to stabilize the market, practically wrecked by a price war, will be accomplished soon. This assertion is made by County Agent C. O. Henry in his monthly nan-atlve report released today. "Competition has caused distributors to flood the county with cheap milk in cutting prices to gain business,” according to Henry. “This competition will be lessened.” Meeting Is Called Negotiations intended to result in mutual advantages to all factions in the industry were to be discussed at a meeting today of a Joint committee representing the Indianapolis Dairy Producers Exchange, distributers, milk pool board, county farm bureau presidents and county agents. "Entrance of many small producers into the market during the price war supplied more milk than the Indianapolis market possibly could absorb,” Henry said. “This price war has not been easy on producers; his costs have not been reduced while his profits have approached the vanishing point,” according to Henry. Distributors v*uii business Distributers operating in the county have decreased from 40 to 21 during the last year, practically 50 per cent. Acuteness of conditions, Henry states, has led distributers and producers alike to see the necessity of immediate organization and complete co-operation. Several meetings, with encouraging results, have been held to bring the warring factions together.
