Gets Decree From Ex-Follies Girl. By United Presx LOS ANGELES, June 24.—Clifton A. Edwards, who sings on phonograph records and the screen as “Ukelele Ike,” was granted a divorce Tuesday from Irene E. Edwards, former Follies girl. The decision did not set aside a property settlement under which Edwards already has given his wife SIOO,OOO in property and agreed to pay her one-third of his income for the remainder of her life. FIVE INJURED IN SERIES OF AUTOCRASHES Boy in Stolen Car Drives Off After East Side Collision. Walking with a companion, Gerald Cox, 14. of 214 Q North Talbot street, Tuesday afternoon was struck by an auto driven by Dan Brown, 52, of 363 South Illinois street, on the Bluff road. Leon Shelton, 16, of 829 Church street, accompanying the Cox boy, was knocked down, but not hurt. Ccx was treated at the city hospital for bruises and cuts and taken home. Three men were injured Tuesday night when two cars collided near the resident of one of the drivers. J. C. Kirby, 26, Meyers road and May drive. Kirby's car collided with another driven by M. E. Franz. 335 Limestone avenue. Franz was arrested for failure to give a signal and Kirby for passing a car at an intersection. Kirby suffered arm and leg cuts and Claude Campbell, 24, of 83 Lyons street, and Grodie Liles, 40. of 553 North Belmont avenue, riding with Kirby, were bruised. Virgil Page, 33. of 908 South Delaware street, suffered minor injuries Tuesday night when struck by an auto driven by Curtis Which. 35, of Martinsville. Page was treated at city hospital. Police today sought the thieves who stole an auto and then fled in it after it was involved in an accident Tuesday night at Emerson avenue and New York street. The stolen car struck an auto driven by Mrs. Clarence Warfield, 34, of 1210 North Delaware street. Mrs. Warfield told police the driver of the car, who appeared to be a boy, failed to stop after the collision. Several other persons were in the stolen auto, she said. GRANITE IS DEFENDED FOR CLARK MEMORIAL' Will Outlast Limestone, Is Reply to Schortemeier Protest. Pointing out that the George Rogers Clark memorial at Vincennes is a national project financed largely by congress, C. B. Coleman, secretary of the Clark commission, today denounced the effort made to have it constructed of Indiana limestone. It is common practice to use granite as the base material for such permanent memorials, Coleman points out in a formal statement. The statement was brought forth by a visit to Governor Harry G. Leslie by Frederick Schortemeier, attorney for the Indiana Limestone Company, in which he urged limestone construction to save $500,000 'ARMY GAME’ IS HINTED Negro “Salesman” Flees, but Leaves His Assorted “Wares.’* “Wanta buy some army goods, missus?” When Mrs. Lester Ammermon. 3260 Schofield avenue, had this proposition made to her Tuesday afternoon by a Negro who was heavily laden with his “wares,” she called police. The Negro fled. Not far from Mrs. Ammermon’s house police found the “army goods.” The goods consisted of two license plates, a driver’s license, letter file, police raincoat, gloves, ten pairs of army shoes and forty-one shirts. WISE CRACKER LEARNS “Something” Is Bounced Off His Head at Broobside Park. At city prison today, Edward Ritenback, 2197 North Gale street, is trying to figure out who and what hit him. Police charged Ritenbach with vagrancy after his wise-cracks at persons in Brookside park are alleged to have made visitors irate. Police said they found him nursing a swollen head and could not explain how it happened.
