While many large shippers are withholding their protests until the Interstate commerce commission sets a date for hearings on the proposed increases, condemnations of the raiiroads' petition already are arriving in large numbers. On the railroads' side, a state- I ment v/as issued by the American Railway Association, saying that j more than a third of the carriers’ net income goes to federal, state and local governments in taxes. In the . first four months of this year, the association said, 36. r <3 cents out of ; each dollar of net revenue and 7.61 ! esnts out of each dollar Os gross receipts, went into taxes. Carl Williams, member of the j federal farm board, said he believed farmers would look upon the rate increase petition with enthusiatic dislike and that the attitude of agriculture in general was that the roads should reduce their rates! rather than raise them. POWER HEAD RENAMED Hoover Reappoints Wyoming Man to Federal Commission. By United Press WASHINGTON, June 19.—Claude L. Draper of Wyoming was today reappointed by President Herbert Hoover to be a member of the federal power commission. His term will expire June 22, 1936.

NOTED JUSTICE OIES F. L. Siddon Sat in Case of Harry F. Sinclair. By United Press WASHINGTON, June 19.—Justice Frederick L. Siddons of the district supreme court, before whom Harry F. Sinclair v/as tried on charges growing out of the Teapot Dome oil lease, died suddenly at his home here Thursday night. He sentenced Sinclair to jail. Siddons was 66 years old and a native of London, England. He is survived by Mrs. Siddons, a son and daughter. President Wilson appointed Siddons a commissioner of the District of Columbia and he subsequently was appointed to the district supreme bench. It was before Siddons that Sinclair, William J. Burns and their associates were tried for contempt of court after it was disclosed Burns’ detectives had shadowed members of the jury sitting in the Sinclair case.
! SWIMMING-POOL I FEES OPPOSED i BY CIVIC CLUBS Federation Takes Up Fight on Assessments as Prohibitive. With the Federation of Communj Ity Civic Clubs reported preparing to fight swimming pool fees of the city park board, Indianapolis residents today registered complaints against the asessments. Officials of the league said they had heard that nearly every member organization of the federation either has or will oppose openly the park board’s fees, at meetings to be held in the next few days, j The sessoin of the federation, June 26, will bring action on the pool fees fight, officials stated. An east side resident complained of the fees being charged in the ! park pools and two White river 1 beaches. Woman Exonerated CLEVELAND. 0., June 19.—Mrs. Mary Hamilton, 37, of Muncie, Ipd., was exonerated by police today of membership in a quartet of swindlers who purportedly exacted SIO,OOO from a Ft. Wayne (Ind.) man. After reporting her combplicity in the case, dectective sergeant Eugene Bouchard of Ft Wayne questioned the woman at length and said she had no part in the swindle. * She was released.
