CHASED BY COP, CAR SPEEDS TO HEADQUARTERS Drunk Charges Against Four Climax Wild ‘Escape From Gang.’ After roaring over easUside streets seventy-five miles an hour, with police in pursuit, two men and women early today brought their car to a stop headquarters to "escape a gang." Those under arrest, charged with drunkenness, are Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Husband, Penn hotel; Mils; Margaret Cox, 24. of 1024 North Pennsylvania street, and Herbert Raymond, 32, Antlers. Police started the pursuit when two cars roared west on Twentyfifth street out of Keystone avenue. One of the cars stopped when the occupants saw police. Its occupants told the officers they followed the other automobile after they heard women screaming. Commandeering the auto, Patrolman William Griffin fired several shots in the air and at the speeding car, and two bullets lodged in the back of the auto's'body. Twice Griffin ordered the auto to stop but each time the driver increased his speed, Griffin said. The officer said the car turned into Washington street and zigzagged a course to police headquarters. During the chase several bottles were thrown from the car, Griffin said. At headquarters the two couples told a story of having purchased a tonic with 20 per cent alcoholic content at a pharmacy and of going to Showboat, a roadhouse on Fall Creek, w'here they said they became involved in an argument with several Negroes. Husband and Raymond said they believed they were being pursued by the Negroes. Griffin, however, declared he was tn uniform and ordered the car halted for the police each time the car in which he was riding drew alongside Husband’s auto.

Netta Duchatcau, 17 (above), with flashing dark eyes and long, dark hair, is the loveliest girl in the world in the opinion of judges who selected her as "Miss Universe” at the Galveston (Tex.) international beauty pageant. Miss Duchateau was so happy she wept when she defeated Anne Lee Patterson, ‘‘Miss United States,” on the last ballot.
BAN IS URGED ON CHILD LABOR •Would Make Million Jobs,’ Says Social Speaker By United Pres MINNEAPOLIS. June 18.—Abolition of employment of children under 16 would provide a million jobs and remove a serious depression of wages, said Courenay Dinwiddle of Washington, in an address today at the national conference of Social Work. These changes could be effected by national compulsory school attendance laws, said Dinwiddie, who is general secretary of the national child labor committee. ‘Child labor does not mitigate charitable relief and is not a substitute for relief,” he said. "This has been proven again and again by case histories of every relief organization. The child's earnings never are enough to tide the family over and destitute families would rely upon agencies.” / 3B* \A %fi>LDEN<# PULE pT | The only rule we follow is "Do? i unto others as you would have j ? others do unto you.” j 'IjJaC-ci}] I HOMI or THOUGHTFULVtBVICC j Funeral Directors 1619 North 1222 I Illinois Street Union Street j TAlbot 1876 DRexel 2551 I
