SIOO,OOO WON IN SWEEPSTAKE BY OHIO COUPLE Phone Clerk and His Wife Dazzled by Fortune in English Derby. Ry United Pretn STEUBENVILLE, 0., June 3. Paul Richardson, 27-year-old telephone clerk and his wife, a night telephone operator, planned to quit their Jobs and cut their telephone line from a party to a private line today when advised their $1 ticket on Orphan, who placed in the Epsom Downs derby won for them SIOO,OOO in the Old Colonial sweepstakes. Mrs. Richardson was running her washing machine in their little apartment when the radio flashed word of their good fortune. That's Last Time ‘ That’s the last time that will run till a maid is here to run it,” she murmured as she shut off the machine and wiped her hands on a wet apron. She sat back to mediate upon the sudden wealth luck had brought them. Not so her husband. He went to a bank, turned his $1 ticket in for collection, bought a new suit, got a hair cut and shampoo and returned home to plan with his wife. Mrs. Richardson decided to resign immediately; her husband will wait until the actual cash arrives. They notified the telephone company to change their service from a party to a private line. Plan on New Car A new—and larger—car, they said, will replace their little old one. And they will move from their rented flat into a home of their own Richardson said he bought the ticket four months ago “because it was numbered 1999.’” “I always liked nines, you see,” he explained.
