‘WHITEWASH' IS GIVEN ILLINOIS •PEN'JFICIALS Nothing Wrong in State’s Penal System, Legislators’ Riot Report Says. By United Press SPRINGFIELD, 111., May 28.—A legislative committee which spent weeks Investigating a series of prison riots in Illinois was on official record today as believing that in the main there is nothing wrong with the state’s penal system, and that no official or group of officials can be blamed for the uprisings. Among suggestions in a report submitted to the house was one that it might be better to reduce the size of the pardon and parole board, which now has nine members, and which the committee thought might be “unwieldy.” The committee did not uphold charges that either the board or the board’s application of the state’s indeterminate sentence law was responsible for riots in which several were killed and more than half a million ando 1 ’ ,*s’ worth of property destroyed xt Joliet and Statesville. The ommlttee praised the pardon board and Warden Henry c. Hill. The report stated that the killing of three convicts in an escape attempt several months ago was “unnecesssary and could have been avoided.” Boy Falls Fifty Feet By United Press LAFAYETTE /id., May 28.—Herman Adams, * , son of Rev. and Mrs. H. LANGDON WITH HIS NEW CAR IS BOOKED Baby Faced Movie Comedian Opens Saturday at Lyric in Sketch Which Made Him World Famous. HARRY LANGDON, well known “baby-faced” movie comedian, will be in Indianapolis with his new car act for one week, starting Saturday. This movie clown is to make a personal appearance on the Lyric stage for one week, starting next Saturday, and also plans to see some of the Speedway classic between shows. Harry Langdon has been on the screen for many years, making of late more short films than features. His comedies have always been a welcomed addition to anytheater’s program and prior to his entering the short reels he was also starred in a number of feature films.

Long before Harry answered the call of the studios he was a stage comedian, in musical comedy and vaudeville. So now for a change Langdon returns to his first love. He is presenting a comedy sketch about golf and automobiling in which he is supported by three other Hollywood players, including Eddie Schubert. Five other RKO vaudeville acts Include Faber and Wales, a pair of comedy artists; Tommie Evans, one man Jazz symphony; Mack and Stanton in a bunesque comedy act, and some sensational Australian Whip Cracking by Aussie and Czech. The feature picture is “Always Goodbye,” anew Fox Moivetone production which brings into stardom the exotic English beauty, Elissa Landi. Through her work in her first American production, “Body and Soul,” in which she appeared with Charles Farrell, Miss Landi won her spurs and now she is a full fledged star. Sea Fox in Long Island sound and perhaps claimed the lives of se\ en talented young persons. Bodies of two women aboard the craft have been recovered from the sound.
