But there have been cases where unscrupulous mechanics : have made trivial repairs the basis | for a big repair bill. Finding these practices not inI dulged in at the Venezia Service ; Garage, but instead receiving skilled | and honest service, motorists who i visit the garage once usually ccnI tinue to return to the garage when- | ever they need further service.

Ice Guards Health of Home in Hot Weather

Adds to Family’s Comfort at Small Cost; Made of Purest Water. Many persons take the things they have for granted and never give a thought to what they could not do, without them. Take the matter of ice, for instance, and figure what it would mean to be without it. Here is a material that is delivered every day, which makes hot weather bearable, which preserves food so that it is safe, and which furnishes refreshment on demand. If no ice were available, the discomfort of summer would be multiplied many times over, the provision of the family meals would be much complicated, and a big share of summer time pleasure and comfort would be impossible. There are decided advantages in using ice for refrigeration in the heme. Economy is one of them. The first cost of a refrigerator is not high, and with a good refrigerator the family ice bills are low. The food is preserved under those conditions of cleanliness and moisture that give it the best flavor. Cold drinks can be prepared in a minute to take away the exhaustion of a hot day. Ice on the table, a bit in the salad or around the butter, and the pleasing tinkle of ice against glass—who says those things have not a real financial value? The hostess who serves cold dishes knows the’* value of the ice that accompanies them. Crystal clear ice in a cold drink adds tremendously to its attractiveness, and a supply at all times does give much added pleasure. Ice, too, is pure. Clean, soft wa-

Bookeeping Service Is Boon for Small Firms

Complete Office Records Are Made Available at Small Cost. Many small business firms, forced by business depression to guard carefully against unnecessary expense, have begun to realize the necessity of a complete bookkeeping system. Many of these have found that the difference between profit and loss is a set of records showing exactly where the business stands at all times. Production costs, sales costs and overhead are figures that must be watched carefully if a business is to succeed. Record Is Important Attempting to run a business with adequate business records is dangerous. Big business corporations realize that bookkeeping is one of the most important parts of the conduct of any business, but many smaller firms now may have their business transactions recorded at a very nominal cost by a firm specializing in keeping records for just such companies. Firm Has Many Clients This service is being provided by the Bookkeeping Service Company, 324 Circle Tower, which has clients among a number of smaller firms. The company has received many letters from such companies expressing satisfaction with the service given. No lack of variety in cars entered in the 500-mile race wil be found by speed fans who attend the world’s speed classic May 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Spedway. Entries include everything from specially built race creations, groomed by the nation’s leading engineers, costing as much as $35,000, to semi-stock cars, some costing as little as $1,500.' The list includes four, eight and sixteen-cylinder motors, front and rear wheel drive mounts and even one Diesel-motored car. This great speed classic, while entertaining racing enthusiasts, also performs a valued service to the automotive industry in testing new engineering ideas. Several of the cars entered this year, hidden by nom de plumes, are full fledged brothers of popular cars being driven on the street every day. It is these cars in which factory engineers are intensely interested. Even before they are cooled from the long 500-mile grind engineers behind closed doors are tearing them to pieces to learn the effect of sustained speed on the mechanical parts. Despite the evident business depression—be it real or mental—seat demand for the race continues strong, indicating last year’s rec-ord-breaking attendance of 168,000 will be equalled. Although seats have been on sale many weeks, out-of-town purchasers are far in the lead, with a brisk demand from Indianapolis noticeable in the last week. Despite the tremendous advance sale, T. E. (Pop) Myers, track manager, declared today there still are excellent seating accommodations in all stands except A and B.
