'KEY' HIES, WITH DEATH MYSTERY STILL UNSOLVED Two Riddles Are Sealed When California Woman Passes. By l'nit'4 Press LOS ANGELES. May 7.—Death apparently sealed two mysteries when Mrs. Esther Carlson, charged with poisoning her wealthy lumberman employer, died as she tried to “Gasp a few words that might have been a confession or a denial. Only a mumbled word that might have been “yes” came from Mrs. Carlson’s lips .when she was asked if she had poisoned Carl August Lindstrcm, retired Chicago lumberman. She died Wednesday night from tuberculosis in the county hospital. Link to Belle Gunncss The other mystery that went unanswered was whether Mrs. Carlson Lore a resemblance to the notorious Belle Gunness, who disappeared after being accused as the poisoner of fourteen persons many years ago -on her farm near La Porte, Ind Mrs. Anna Erickson, a neighbor, had gone to trial on the Lindstrom poisoning charge when Ray Stahlman, deputy district attorney, was informed Mrs. Carlson would not live another hour. With Peter and Charles Lindstrom of Chicago, sons of the lumberman, he hastened to the hospital. Mrs. Carlson was semi-conscious and her answers were so vague _Stahlman refused to accept them as evidence. Same Sigh Is Answer "Did you poison Mr. Lindstrom?” Stahlman asked. A muffled sigh which sounded like "Yes” was the only response. “You admit you gave him arsenic?” she was asked. The same sigh was given in answer. Joseph Marchetti, defense attorhe”. asked: “Mrs. Carlson, you mean you did not kill Mr. Lindstrom, don’t you?” The same sigh was the answer. With that, Stahlman agreed that the dying woman was not aware of * the questioning, and returned to the courtroom. U. S. HAS EYES ON INCREASE IN FRANCE'S NAVY Senator Morrow Soon to Discuss Situation * With Stimson. BY LYLE C. WILSON Unit'd Press Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON, May 7.—Senator Dwight W. Morrow (Rep., N. J.), who recently represented the United States in efforts to end naval competition between France and Italy, is expected here soon to confer with Secretary of State Henry L. Stimson. Additional first-hand information on European naval problems will be available within a fortnight with arrival of Hugh S. Gibson, ambassador to Belgium. Coincident with Senator Morrow’s -return from an European vacation, in which he became Stimson’s emergency emissary in conversations with Arthur Henderson, British foreign secretary, the French admiralty announced a 50,000-ton naval construction program, which is to
WANT TO LOOK YOUNG? The secret of keeping young is to feel young—to do this you must watch your liver and bowels—there’s no need of having a sallow complexion—dark rings under your eyes —pimples—a bilions look in your face—dull eyes with no sparkle. Your doctor will tell you ninety per cent of all sickness comes from inactive bowels and liver. Dr. Edwards, a well-known physician in Ohio, perfected a vegetable compound as a substitute for calomel to act on the liver and bowels, which he gave to his patients for years. Dr. Edwards Olive Tablets are gentle in their action yet always effective. They help bring about that natural buoyancy which all should enjoy by toning up the liver and clearing the system of impurities. Dr. Edwards Olive Tablets are known by their olive color, loc, 30c, 60c.—Advertisement.

Morrow’s efforts failed In behalf of an Anglo-French-Italian naval agreement to supplement and complete the 1930 London naval treaty among Great Britain, Japan and the United States. After unofficial agreement on a limitations basis, France unexpectedly repudiated the program soon after European chancellories were startled by announcement of a customs union between Germany and Austria. French suspicions of eventful political union of those German speaking people apparently stopped progress toward continental naval limitation for the time being. But the French admiralty's partial 1931-32 program as reported here does not vary from the program which would have been permissible had Morrow and Henderson suceeded in obtaining FrancoItalian agreement"? American naval experts were most interested in the project for a 23,-333-ton craft described by French authorities as a cruiser, but apparently better defined as a battle cruiser. This vessel is to include the unusual electric welded con-
