Card Protest Against Cub Win Denied By United Press NEW YORK, May 7.— Appeal of the St. Louis Cardinals club to replay the game of April 19, won by the Chicago Cubs, 4 to 1, was denied by John A. Heydler, president of the National League, today. The appeal was based on a protest against an alleged misinterpretation of rules by Umpire Moran. It was held by the protesting club that the umpire had applied the ’•momentarily held” rule on a fly-ball catch made by outfielder Riggs Stephenson of the Cubs at an important period of the game. This rule had been suspended under ground rules adopted because of the overflow crowd. Heydler held that the decision was one involving solely the accuracy of the umpire’s judgment.
