SIAMESE RULER PREPARES FOR EYE OPERATION* Heads for Opl'.ir Hall to Be Operated Upon for Cataract. By United Press WASHINGTON, May I.—The official visit of King Praja&hlpok of Siam to Washington, came to an end today. Farewells between the king and queen, President and first lady were said late Thursday in the massive stone residence on Massachusetts avenue, above which floated the red and royal yellow standard of Siam. The king’s train was to leave at 10 a. m. for Ophir Hall, Purchere, N. Y. There the king will be operated on for the removal of a cataract from his left eye. Dr. William H. Wilmer, who examined his majesty’s eyes at the Wilmer institute, Baltimore, Thursday told the king that blindness threatens unless the operation is performed. Dr. John Wheeler of New York will be the surgeon. The king acquired another title during his stay here—the honorary degree of doctor of laws, conferred by George Washington university. The convocation at which the degree was awarded was the king's only semi-public appearance. Prajadhl pok has preserved a stately, silent demeanor, nodding slightly now and then, and smiling only occasionally. Silent and reticent is the little monarch—but his party is not without its merrymaker. Prince Svasti. the king’s father-in-law, has proved to his American hosts to be what they would call a “jolly fellow.” And his wife, the princess, is much like him. What Prince Svasti likes best of the things he has seen in America, he keeps to himself. But he has told his intimates the remark about him he treasures most of all. Made by a private citizen to one of the king’s attaches and relayed to the prince, it was: “Say, this old prince is a pretty good guy.” KING BORIS ASKS HELP Turns to Former Premier in Bulgarian Cabinet Crisis. He was recalled after former Premier Alexander had failed in his second attempt to arrange anew government. Postal Patrons Increase NEWCASTLE, id., May l.—Postmaster Sam J. Blast Will Be Next Move in Effort to Conquer Flame Menace. By Times Special GLADEWATER. Tex., May I. Final preparation was made today for the initial attempt to blast out the flame spouting from the Sinclair Company’s Cole No. 1 gusher. A heavy charge of nitroglycerin will be set off Saturday at the mouth of the well*, where eight men were burned fatally. If the effort is a success, the oil and gas pressure will be forced back into the well and the 300-foot pillar of fire will die before the fuel again gushes up•ward. More than fifty workmen, clad in asbestos sqjts as protection against the heat, cleared debris from the fire area Thursday and laid out plans for the fight against the wild well.
