HOOVER HEARS GRIDIRON CLUB RIDICULE DRYS Good Ship ‘Prohibition’ All but Sinks in Skit at Banquet, Bv United Prtu WASHINGTON, April 28.—Thunder rolled and lightning flashed across the stage at the Gridiron Club banquet Monday night as the good ship Prohibition hove into view, rocking and tossing in a heavy sea, threatening to sink any minute. While President Hoover and other distinguished guests of the newspaper men locked on Representative La Guardia 'Rep., N. Y.) impersonated by a member of the club, rushed across the stage, making pessimistic comments on the "Democratic weather.” "How are we going to get out of this storm?” he queried. To which the Ancient Mariner, otherwise “George W. Wickersham,” responded: "If you’ll read the report of my commission you’ll find I haven’t the slightest idea.” Senator Fess (Rep., O.), A1 Capone and Mabel Walker Willebrandt, however, viewed the storm with no alarm at all, Capone warning against repeal, and Fess clinging to the rail and insisting there was no storm. Calvin Coolidge was awarded the 1031 Nobel prize because his work "contains the best features of Aesop, the Farmers’ Almanac and Ella Wheeler Wilcox,” and with the award wefit permission to slap Theodore Dreiser’s face. General Smedley D. Butler was brought to trial charged with "saying that General Augusto Sandina, while rdiing a bicycle, ran over a squad of marines and didn’t even stop.” After the program, Mr. Hoover made a brief speech, but pursuant to the rules of the dinner, no word of it was made public. Other guests were members of the cabinet, leading members of congress and the diplomatic corps, and public figures from many walks of life. Legal Notices PURSUANT to Section 56. Chapter 213.
