JEWEL LOOT $35,800 Bandits Rob Wealthy Pair Near Chicago Home. By United Press CHICAGO, April 20.—Benjamin Beris, president of the American Glass Company, and Mrs. Beris were held up last night in the driveway of their $120,000 home and robbed of $35300 worth of Jewelry by two bandits who trailed them home from a loop banquet. Mrs. Bens lost a bracelet which was set with 2,000 small diamonds and which she valued at $25,000. She also was forced to give up a SIO,OOO diamond necklace and her engagement ring, which was valued at SBOO. PARENTS MUST HELP, IS DR. MORGAN’S VIEW Neither Physician Nor School Can Come First, Says Commissioner. Neither the physician nor the school can supplant the parent in understanding and direction of a child, Dr. Herman G. Morgan, city health commissioner, told the Indianapolis Council of Social Agencies, in Christ church parish house at noon today. His was the first of talks on child health, prior to Child Health Week, May 1-8, and Child Health Day, May 1. "Progress and prosperity of a nation is directly dependent upon the health of its citizens,” said Dr. Morgan. ‘‘A broader dissemination among parents of the knowledge pertaining to the health problems of children is greatly needed.”
MORE PHONES ARE USED Increase Greatest Since 1930, Company Survey Shows. Indicative of improvement in business conditions, Indiana Bell Telephone Company officials said today, there has been an increase in the number of telephones in use during March and April for the first time since the spring of 1930. During 1930 there were 3,757 phones disconnected, and the monthly loss continued until this spring, when it stopped, and finally led to an increase of 462 in March. INJUNCTION IS SOUGHT Ravenswood Citizen Seeks to Restrain Litigation Cost Payment. Injunction against collection from the town of Ravenswood of $154.05 costs of litigation of three trustees over validity of their claims to office, was asked in a suit filed today in superior court two by Mrs. Carrie J. Rumhofer, a taxpayer of Ravensw’ood. The trustees, William Hubbs, Robert Stamm and Charles L. Ford, were in court after a dispute over their right to office. Pioneer Rubber Man Dies By United Press PASADENA, Cal., April 20. Francis Alonzo Hardy, 80, pioneer rubber manufacturer, died here Sunday. He founded the firm which later became the B.* F.
