NEW SYSTEM OF POOR AID IS POT IN EFFECT Baskets of Food to Be Given for Work; No Payments Will Be Made. Anew system of poor relief that Is expected to eliminate the professional "seeker of aid" was being put into effect today following a meeting of township trustees and city relief administrators in the Columbia Club Wednesday night. Under the plan, all able-bodied men who petition for aid will be given work to earn their food. Baskets of food will be allowed on basis of need and amount of w-ork done. No cash payments will be made applicants. Families will be allowed one basket a week in most cases. All townships will adopt systems similar to one announced by Mrs. Hannah Noone, Center township trustee, it is said. Plans Are Announced Mrs. Noone has annqunced baskets of food will be distributed as follows: Families of two members will be given $2.25 baskets; families of two to five members, $3.50 baskets, and families of more than five members, $5.25 baskets. Reductions of 42 cents on the large basket and 25 and 20 cents, respectively, on the two smaller ones are announced. “Families without able-bodied men will be cared for as heretofore," Mrs..Noone said. Harry Dunn, county auditor, presided at the meeting in the Columbia Club, called to effect closer relations between relief agencies. Basket System Condemned Plans for changing the poor relief system were discussed by William H Book, Chamber of Commerce emergency relief committee secretary, before the South Side Civic clubs central committee Wednesday night in the Fountain oquare theater. Book said certificates redeemable in groceries instead of baskets distributed to the men may be given this summer in several townships, not including Center. The plan of giving baskets as part pay on “made work" projects has been condemned by the club. SCHOOL TALLY TO OPEN Marion County Enumeration to Be Completed by April 30. Marion county's annual school enumeration will start Friday, the county board of education announced today. Listing of all school children, outside Indianapolis, is expected to be completed by Aprjl 30.

Bryan Untiedt, 13. above, the boy hero who saved the lives of fourteen school mates when they were stranded in a bus during a Colorado blizzard by urging them to box and otherwise keeping them moving, and also gave most of his clothing to others, is to be the. guest of President and Mrs. Hoover at the White House just as soon as he is able to leave the hospital at Lamar, Colo. The chief executive was tremendously impressed by the boys heroism. Five of the children were unable to withstand the cold and perished.
