Art Clubs to Convene at Institute Sixth annual convention of the Ihdiana Federation of Art Club will be held Friday and Saturday at the John Herron Art Institute. The art department of Woman’s Department Club of Indianapolis will act as hostess for the convention. Mrs. H. B. Burnet is chairman of the program committee, Mrs. Mark D. Hamer, chairman of the art department, and Mrs. Everett Schofield, president of the club. A feature of the convention will 'be the closing banquet, the eighth annual dinner of the art department of the Woman’s Department Club, at 6:30 Saturday in the Riley ropm at the Claypool. Dr. John Shapley, professor and chairman of the Art department of Chicago university will be speaker, Mrs. Hamer will preside. Mr. Leonidas Smith will be chairman of arrangements. Registration will be held at 9:30 Friday, and the first session will open at 10 with greetings by Mrs. Jack Goodman of the Indianapolis Art Association. Year’s Work to Be Reviewed A .summary of the year’s work will be given by Mrs. John Allee, Greencastle, president; J. H. Walters, Purdue university, vice-president, and Mrs. Earle Wayne Bott, Indianapolis, treasurer. Mrs. Burnet will announce results of the 1930 school ground beautification contest conducted by Indiana university, the Federation of Art Clubs and the State Parent-Teachers Association. Mrs. J. R. Marsh, Muncie, chairman of the nominating committee, will announce the following slate: Dr. Homer P. Rainey, Franklin college, vice-president; Mrs. Ralph L. Cosier, Bloomington, recording secretary; Mrs. Paul T. Payne, Indianapolis, treasurer; Mrs. D. J. Prohaska, Whiting, and E. Y. Guernsey, Bedford, directors. At 11, a round table discussion led by J. B. Wiles, head of the Ft. Wayne Chamber of Commerce, will be held on “Where Shall We Begin to Create Public Interest in Civic Art?’’ Lawrence V. Sheridan, Indianapolis landscape artist, will take part in the discussion on showing how principles of city and regional planning operate to produce civic beauty. The discussion will continue at a luncheon to be held in the Colonial tearoom, 1433 North Pennsylvania strit. Mrs. Harry Lee Boshore, Marion, will be hostess, and Mrs. Lawrence Keelty, Madison, will lead discussion.' Will Tour Gallery Mrs. Allee and Mrs. Burnet will preside at the Friday afternoon program. Speakers will include Mrs. A. C. Rasmussen, Indianapolis; Mrs. Robert E. Burke, Indiana university, and Colonel Richard Lieber, head of the state department of conservation. There will be a gallery tour at 3 and a talk on the present exhibition. Convention visitors will be guests of the Indiana Artists Club, Friday, at its eighth annual costume ball to be held in Sculpture court of the art institute. A reception for Indiana Artists Club officers, directors and members will be held proceeding the dance. Steele, wife of the late T. C. Steele, Indiana painter, presiding. Mrs. C B. King, Chicago, chairman of the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association, and Mrs. Frederic Krull, Indianapolis, will speak. In connection with the convention, the Federation of Junior Art Clubs will hold its annual meeting Saturday. Miss Marion Bilby is president. Registration will be held from 10 to 11, and officers’ reports will be read. Miss Bilby and Miss Catherine Martin, newly appointed sponsor, will preside. Mrs. Burnet will speak at 11 on, “The Need for Junior Art Clubs,” and Mrs. Allee will discuss their work. Announcement of the election of officers will be made and the convention will adjourn for luncheon with the sgnior meeting. The juniors will attend the program in the afternoon.

Kappa Theta Alumnae to Tour Four Community Fund Homes
A “Come and See Trip” will be held by members of the Indianapolis Alumnae Association of Kappa Alpha Theta Saturday afternoon, April 11, following a business session at the home of Mrs. William P. Chapin, 3907 North Delaware street. Four agencies of the Indianapolis Community Fund, including the Flanner House, Christamore Settlement, the Florence Crittenden Home, and the Old Ladies’ Home will be visited. Founder’s Day to Be Observed by Cheer Guild Riley Hospital Cheer Guild will observe Founder’s day Thursday with a tea from 3 to 5 at the home of the president, Mrs. Charles Hogate, 5470 University avenue. This tea is an annual event in honor of Mrs. Andrew J. Porto, founder, and the women who responded to her call for volunteers. The membership, twelve at the fiist meeting, increased to thirty at the second. These were known as charter members. At this time, seven years later, the guild has a memDership of 135 active and 1,500 auxiliary members in chapters throughout the state. Bernzen, 1110 North Hawthorne street, Easter Sunday afternoon and night. A dance and card party will be held Easter Monday night at the school hall, Fourteenth street and Bosart avenue. Music Clubs Set Plans for Session Plans for the second annual public choral festival to be featured at the eleventh annual convention of Indiana Federation of Music Clubs, April 16-18, have been changed, and now call for the appearance of two choruses at the regular convention session at the Lincoln the first afternoon of the convention. The remainder of the chorus will present a program at the Broadway Methodist Episcopal church in the evening. The church choir, directed by Willard Beck, which is affiliated with the federation, will take part in the program, which will close with a massed chorus directed by Mr. Beck. The festival program is being arranged by Mrs. Frank V. R. Bunn, Muncie, whose matinee musicale chorus will be included in the choral groups. The festival will be open to the public without charge. Opening Day Speakers Named Speakers for the opening day of the convention include Mrs. Edgar Stillman Kelley, former national federation president; and chairman of the biennial convention of the National Federation in June in San Francisco, and Paul C. Stetson, superintendent of Indianapolis public schools, who will give the address of welcome. Both will speak in the afternoon following the reports of officers. Mrs. Hamet D. Hinkle, Vincennes, second vice-president of the federation, will preside at the luncheon at 12:30. She will discuss the Hoosier Program bureau, of which she is chairman. Publicity to Be Feature The second day of the convention will feature publicity in the morning, with a talk by Frank Elliott, director of publicity at Indiana university, and Mrs. Henry Schurmann, national publicity chairman. Mrs. Verna Palmer Sterling, chairman of state newspaper publicity, has asked senior club presidents to send publicity chairmen or some club representative to the publicity luncheon at noon, when she will discuss the federation’s newspaper publicity service. Reservations may be made with Mrs. Sterling before April 15. The third day will be devoted to juniors with a band contest and parade in the morning, followed by a luncheon at noon at the Y. W. C. A. after which scrapbook contest prizes will be awarded. _ Society to Entertain Ladies’ society of the Indianapolis Mannerchor will hold a card party at 2 Friday at the Academy of Music. Mrs. Otto DeLuse and Miss Emma Minter will be hostesses. The spring guest party will be held Tuesday, April 28.

Hunt, 3939 Washington boulevard, of the Monday Conversation Club, and Mrs. G. T. Doyal, 1736 Montcalm, of the Amicitia Club. The Monday Conversation Club is one of the oldest clubs in the city, having been in existence since 1897, and numbering among its members women prominent in Indianapolis society. Mrs. Doyal has been treasurer of the Amicitia Club, which was organized in 1923 for welfare work. It is affiliated with the Indiana and Seventh District Federation of Clubs, the Indianapolis Council of Women and the Photo Indorsers.

Bailey, an artist and teacher, has been supervisor of art in Massachusetts, a leader of travel parties in Europe and a platform speaker. His lecture will be “The Magic Realm of the Arts.” Wilbur D. Peat, director of the John Herron Art Institute, will introduce Bailey. Mrs. C. A. Breece, music chairman for the general club will sing “The Builder,” by Cadman, and “Children of Men,” by Russell. The city hospital auxiliary will meet at 11:30 Tuesday at the city hospital. “Civic Art” will be discussed by Clarence T. Myers, architect, at 2:30 Monday at a meeting of the art department. Myers originated the Small House bureau of Indianapolis and is serving as Its secretary at present. A musical program will precede his talk. Mrs. Thomas Stewart will be hostess chairman for the tea hour and will be assisted by Mesdames A. M. McVie, E. H. Richardson, Frank G. West, R B Wilson and Miss Florence Bass. Each member attending the meeting will be given a package of flower seeds. Mrs. W. D. Hamer, chairman, will preside and annual reports of committee chairmen will be read.
Alpha O. Head to Be Guest of Butler Chapter Mrs. Peyton Wemyss-Smith, Oklahoma City, national inspector of Alpha Chi Omega, will be the guest of the active chapter of Butler university for the coming week. A luncheon in her honor will be given, by the chapter, and she will attend initiation services, followed by a formal banquet. The central office of Alpha Chi Omega, which is located here, will be inspected by Mrs. WemyssSmith. Saturday, April 11, she will attend the monthly luncheon meeting of the Beta Beta alumnae chapter, at the home of Mrs. Donald U Bridge, 5425 North Pennsylvania street. Following her visit with the chapter she will be the week-end guest of Miss Mildred Blackridge, national secretary of the sorority. Phi Sigma to Meet Alpha chapter, Phi Sigma Theta sorority, will hold a business meeting Monday night at the South Side Y, W. C. A. Miss Alice Krause president, will preside.
