WIN BATTLE TO STOP CLOSING OP ADLER ST. South Meridian Civic Group Gets Works Board to Rescind Order. South Meridian Street Civic League members today were victorious in their fight to prevent closing of Adler street and several alleys between Meridian street and Capitol avenue, south of the Eelt railroad. The works board rescinded previous action, thereby halting the proposed closing. Petition to have the street and alleys closed as a railroad switch might be put into operation, was filed with the board by Robert Ibcilach, coal company proprietor. Due to the high cost of improvement, the proposed resurfacing of Eleventh street, from West to Brook streets, was dropped by the board on recommendation of A. H. Moore, city engineer.

EX-GOV. DUNNE BACKS CEWAK IN CHICAGO RACE Comes Out of Retirement to Fight Big Bill's Mayor Contest. By United Pregg CHICAGO, April 3.—Edward F. Dunne, who was mayor of Chicago in 1905 and later Governor of Illinois, came out of retirement today to enter actively the heated mayorship campaign which will end next Tuesday when a million or more
I voters decide the political future of Big Bill Thompson. Entrance of Dunne, on the side of Thompson's Democratic oppo--1 nent. Anton J. Cermak, made the list of politicians and former pclii ticians taking part in the campaign complete. So great has become the public interest in this race to decide who shall be mayor of Chicago during the 1933 world's fair that every man who ever controlled so much as a precinct has announced for one of the candidates. Dunne urged Cermak’s election in a public statement, claiming Cermak's public record was better than Thompson's and blaming the mayor for “outrageous expenditures which have resulted in high taxes.” Both Thompson and Cermak made numerous speeches again today as their bands boomed through the loop and ward meetings were held in every section of the city.
