the country could have a rest,” Watson said. “Why should we trouble the country with politics?” “The campaign Is more than a year and a half away and congress will not convene for eight months.” The statement of the senate leader was made in response to agitation here last week in favor of an early change of party management in preparation for the 1932 campaign. Chairman Simeon Fess of the Republican national committee, is known to be serving in a temporary capacity. Some Republican leaders here thought Fess should be replaced soon with a militant manager who would begin organization for the strenuous days ahead. Watson was reported to have been of this view prior to the White House meeting. ,His statement that no change will be made now will carry to party officials the authenticity of executive approval because of the manner- in which it was made. It is understood Mr. Hoover desires to continue at the helm of the party on through the summer montlis. The effect of the decision

will be to delay, but not ultimately to interfere with the plan to replace the Ohioan. Watson said the financial condition of the government was not discussed at the breakfast conference. He said he intended to discuss the matter with Treasury Secretary Mellon.
