USE OF ICE IN HOME HELPS TO GUARD HEALTH Preservation of Food Only One of Many Benefits to Be Obtained. Many persons take the things | they have for granted and never give a thought to what they would be deprived of without them. Take the matter of ice, for instance, and figure what it would mean to be without it. Here is a material that is delivered every day which makes hot weather bearable, which preserves food so that it is safe, and which furnishes refreshment on demand. If no ice were available, the discomfort of the summer would be multiplied many times over, the provision of the family meals would be much complicated and a big share of summertime pleasure and comfort would be impossible. Value Is Recognized There are decided advantages in using ice for refrigeration in the home. Economy is one of them. The first cost of a good refrigerator is not high, and with a good refrigerator the family ice bills are low. The food is preserved under these conditions of cleanliness and moisture that give it the best flavor, and cold drinks can be mixed in a minute to take away the exhaustion of a hot day. Ice on the table, a bit in the salad or around the butter, and the pleasing tinkle of ice against glass—who says these things have not a real financial value? The hostess who serves cold dishes knows the value of the ice that accompanies them. The ice in the cold drink adds tremendously to its attractiveness, and a supply at all times gives much added pleasure. Water Is Distilled Ice, too, is pure. Icemakers use distilled water, which is the most healthful form, for no mineral or organic substance gets into it. Pure soft water hardened into clear cold crystals is just about as clean as anything can be. Then, to climax its advantages, the service that goes with ice is regular, prompt and courteous. The purest ice possible may be obtained in this city from the Artificial Ice and Cold Storage Company, 326 West Ohio street, telephone LI. 6443. With a good refrigerator and this service, year-round comfort, health and convenience may be assured.

The lowly sparerib has come into its own with accidental discovery of anew method of cooking which gives it an incomparably delicious flavor. While connected with a hickorysmoked barbecue at Cleveland, R. L. Dalson, owner of the Southern Hickory Smoked Barbecue, opened recently at 1010 North Meridian street, discovered the process which has won wide popularity for spareribs. In a barrel of meat Dalson found some spareribs. Instead of throwing it away, he placed it in the barbecue with the other meat and forgot it. Its place on the pit was at the far end, where little heat and plenty of smoke reached it. There it remained twelve hours. By that time its aroma was just a little different. Three hours later it was finished and the discovery was made. Now spareribs are being served daily to hundreds of enthusiastic patrons of the Southern Hickory Smoked Barbecue. Spareribs at the Southern are especially selected from the choicest meat on the market.
