JACK WALTON BEATS BACK ON POLITICS TRAIL Impeached Governor Is Nominated for Mayor of Oklahoma City. By Times Special OKLAHOMA CITY. March 20 - With J. C. (Jack) Walton, former Governor, who was impeached nominated for mayor, this city is entering what promises to be its most spectacular city campaign. Walton and Clarence J. Blinn, a business man, are the survivors of the city primary held this week Starts Back Up Trail By running for mayor, Walton is attempting to recoup his political fortunes over the same route where he started eleven years ago Shortly after returning from a visit to Mexico, where he pulled the throttle of President Diaz’ private train. Walton entered city politics, and became mayor in 1920. From that post he was elected Governor by the largest majority ever give na gubernatorial candidate at that date His fame was dimmed bv his impeachment in the Ku-Kiux Klan uprising of 1923 after he had placed the state under martial law. Under U. S. Indictment Since then he has run for public offices, including that of United States senator, but until this year had failed to regain in his home city the strength he formerly had shown, Walton is under indictment on mail fraud charges in the government’s investigation of the Universal Oil and Gas Company. Codefendants include Henry knight. Miller, editor of Psychology Magazine; Richard Enright, former New York police commissioner, and S. E. J. Cox, former partner of Dr. Frederick Cook. PAY TAXES Arizona Now Has 5-Cent Emergency Levy on Gasoline. By United Press PHOENIX, Ariz., March 20. Tourists who merely pass through Arizona contribute considerable to the state’s -tax burden, a survey of gasoline tax receipts discloses During January collections from the 4-cent tax totaled $210,362.02. Now Arizona has a 5-cent gas tax, an emergency law passed by the 1931 legislature. Suicide Buried CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind., March 20.—Funeral services were held here for Glen Eggers, a contractor, who committed suicide by shooting at his home. No motive has been ascribed for the act. He leaves his widow and five children.
