(By James T. Hamill As Cos.) “ Some improvement came into the market during the final hour under the leadership of prominent automotive and radio shares, but remained irregular and for the most part failed to push above Thursday’s final figures. United States Radio was in good demand at prices fractionally above the previous close, while Bendix, Borg and Cord were strong around previous closing levels. Trading remained quiet, reflecting the street’s uncertainty regarding immediate outloqk for the market. Turnover was unusually small. —March 13— SALES 95,000 SHARES ..... ~ * _ . High. Low. Last. GRAIN FUTURES WEAKEN UNDER HEAVY SELLING Declines at Winnipeg and Abroad Are Factors in Slump. BY HAROLD E. RAINVILLE United Press Staff Correspondent CHICAGO, March 13.—Local traders sold corn and wheat in large amounts toward the last on the Board of Trade today and prices crumbled under the onslaught. Buying againts bids checked the decline. but both grains closed much lower. Weakness at Winnipeg initiated the selling. * Com had held firm throughout the session while wheat had been steady. . It was a dull day and the range was very narrow. Larger Argentine clearings than expected and weakness abroad were factors. Oats were influenced by the action in the major grains. Foreign Markets Weak At the close old wheat was unchanged to 14 cent higher, new ■wheat was 1 to 1 */s cents lower, corn was % to % cent lower and oats were % to % cent off. Provisions were firm to higher. Liverpool continued weak and closed 1 cent lower. Buenos Aires was unevenly % to I*4 cents down at mid-day. Nothing was heard of export business during the morning. Cash prices were unchanged. Receipts were 142 cars. Corn acted much after the manner of wheat during the morning but displayed more strength. At mid-session prices were % to Vic higher. Operators Bearish Local operators were somewhat bearish but the corn market was given good support. Lack of a cash demand continues and the dullness of grains is disheartening. The only news was the strength of corn in foreign markets. Cash prices were unchanged to Vic lower. Receipts were 120 cars. Oats were fractionally lower after an early show of steadiness. Selling by locals dropped prices *4 to Vic during the morning. Cash interests were on the buying side but failed to stem the downturn. Cash prices were unchanged to Vic lower. Receipts were 16 cars. Winnipeg Off By United Press WINNIPEG, Manitoba, March 13. Lack of export business and weak cable news sent wheat prices down today on the Winnipeg Grain Exdchange. May wheat closed at 59% cents, down IVi cents. July wheat was 61Vi, down I*4 cents, while October wheat closed at 63% cents, down 1% cents. Pit trading from the start was dull as the prices continued to decline after an initial decline of % cent during the opening half hour. Chicago Grain Table WHEAT— “ March 13 ~ Prev , u, OP®**-, High.
