FUTURES HOLD UNCHANGED IN LIGHTTRADING Weakness at Winnipeg and Liverpool Weakening Factors. BY HOWARD E. RAINVILLE United Press Staff Correspondent CHICAGO, March 13.—Wheat opened dull and steady in a light trade on the Board of Trade today. Scattered selling and moderate buying gave the deferred deliveries a weak aspect, but the decline was small early. Weakness at Winnipeg and and Liverpool were the depressing factors. Corn started steady and somewhat firm. Argentine news continues to be bullish on corn. The cash month was inactive at the start. Oats were unmoved in a small trade. At the opening old wheat was % cent higher with new wheat unchanged to % cent lower. Com was unchanged to H cent ip and oats were unchanged. Provisions were slow, but strong. Foreign Marts Weaken Liverpool opened steady, but. weakened on larger Australian and Russian shipments, selling off % to % cent by mid-afternoon, Buenos Aires dropped 114 cents during the morning. Spreading operations are attracting more attention among traders and are becoming an important factor although short selling is discouraged. More constructive features to the market cause hesitancy on the short side. There is a liberal sized short interest but world markets are showing a resistance to news of a bearish nature. The foregn situation is being watched closely as it is the 'eelief that any charge in sentiment must originate there. Argentine Com Up The substantial advance in Argentine corn prices is helping corn here but the inability of wheat to stir out of its rut holds the market in check. There is very little old crop corn left in Argentina and it is of poor quality. The new crop will not be ready for a month or more. Meanwhile, the demand abroad is increasing. The effect of the sharp advance in corn prices in Argentina is shown in the increased demand for oats and barley Large export takings of Canadian barley have been reported and it is the belief that oats, too, will be taken. This would probably result in higher prices here. Chicago Grain Table —March 13— WHEAT (Old) Prev. High. Loci'. 11:00 Close.
