J. Basil Ramsey, above, former head of the defunct HolstonUnion National bank and Holston Trust Company of Knoxville, Tenn., has been indicted in connection with the failure of the banks, which had a large amount of state funds on deposit. The Tennessee legislature, the Knox county grand jury, and the federal government are investigating the collapse.

DEATH PENALTY FOR ‘HITCHER Convicted of Killing Mai Who Gave Him Ride. By United Press BARDSTOWN. Ky„ March 13 - Frank Carson. Detroit, was fount” guilty today of murdering Carl B James, railroad official from whoa he “hitched” a ride. The penalty was fixed at death. With the Carson case disposed of earlier than had been expected, prosecutors said they would open immediately with the trial of Anthony Petersons, Detroit, charged with being Carson’s accomplice. James, formerly a professor In Ohio, was killed by one of two men whom he ’st ride with him whilf on an automobile tour. His wife identified Carson as the slayer. Aged Resident Dies By Times Special MT. VERNON. Ind., March 13. Funeral services were held Thursday for Michael Roos, 90, a resident of the Zoar church community for fifty years. He was a native of Germany.
