WANTED DRESS; LANDS IN JAIL, ESCORTKILLED Sailor Friend Plunges Three Stories Trying to Rob Office. By United Prtsa NEW YORK, Feb. 26.—An attractive 21-year-old girl from West Pullman, 111., and her boy friend, a seaman, set out on a midnight adventure that led to death, for one, and a prison cell for the other. Victor Laurie, the sailor, told Ellen Warner, who came to New York three years ago, that he would take her to a movie. They set out for the theater, but on the way across town Ellen stopped at a dress shop show window. “You’d like to have one of those dresses?” Laurie asked. “Oh, boy!” Ellen exclaimed; “would I!” So Laurie stopped at another store, bought a rope and they , went to a midtown office building with the intention of burglarizing an office. Laurie went to the roof and let himself down, seaman-like, the side of the building. Halfway doim the rope snapped and he plunged three stories to the ground. Instead of deserting Laurie, Ellen called for help. Police took the injured man to a hospital, where he died at 5 a. m. Wednesday. Ellen went to jail.
