his membership in the Manufacturers’ Club. “The only way to enforce prohibition is to arrest the big fellow along with the little fellow,’’ Schofield told reporters as he was leaving the club. | “Broad and Walnut streets looks the same to me as any little alley speakeasy.” Schofield has been a’ member of the club many years. Late Wednesday night, according to police, the director learned there j was a large, stock of liquor at the j o,lub. He immediately went before j a magistrate and obtained a warrant. He summoned William B. Mills, superintendent of police; Joseph Taylor, assistant superintendent, and Inspector John Barthold to his office to plan the raid. At 1:30 a. m. they left the city hall And went to the club. Entering, they took an elevator to an upper floor where three members of the police “mystery squad” were waiting, armed wtih crowbars. ; After repeated knocks failed to gain admittance, the police forced their w ay into the room. A number of club members were i there. The room was furnished as a "luxurious barroom,” police said. The members were not molested, i however, the only one arrested be- j ing the club manager. OPERATION ON CORPSE BASIS OF SI.OOO SUIT Widow of South Bend Man Alleges Action Without Consent. By Time* Special SOUTH BEND, Ind.. Feb. 26.—Suit for SI,OOO damages has been filed by Mrs. Cecil M. Swalley, who alleges a post-mortem operation was performed on her late husband, Lem S. Swalley. without her consent. Defendants are the South Bend Medical Laboratory, Inc., the Epworth Hospital Association. Dr. Alfred E. Giordano and Quentin Stultz. Swalley died at the hospital Aug. 9. His widow alleges that Stultz, an interne, removed the body from the hospital to the laboratories, which are in the same building, to one that Dr. Giordano performed the operation, which the widow alleges was for the sole purpose of satisfying professional curiosity.
