What Causes Crime?
Every day the same monotonous story of robbery, defalcations, graft, crime. What causes vice and crime? € Not riches! There have been a few criminals among our wealthy families, but no more than among other groups. * Not poverty! Only a small percentage of the poor are criminals. \ Not insanity alone. There are a great many harmlessly insane. Not mediocrity. Not pain. Not sorrow. Circumstance, suffering or affliction is no indication of criminality. It is a character weakness that can be found at any stratum.

It shows up under character stress when the weakened morale lacks the strength to resist the 1 ure of what seems then to be an adventure or the easiest way out of a difficulty. Weak characters cannot forever be protected from the glamorous beckoning of questionable adventures or sheltered from the difficulties of life. Only one way remains to prevent crime... by building strong character in youth. The responsibility is yours. You alone have the control of your children during the formative years. The crimes that will be committed this generation can only be punished. But the crimes of the next generation can be prevented... by your determination, your insistence upon proper moral training.
