Teach Your Children Clean Living and Clean t hinking
From whatever angle it Is considered, this problem of vice and crime goes right back to the home, and, like a stray cat, curls up in front of the door of Mr. and Mrs. Average Man and Woman. What we do in the home, difficult as it may be for us to realize until that fact confronts us with a resounding challenge, has direct bearing upon the prevention of vice and crime among our boys and girls. '‘Keep the home together and you will clean out the prisons,” declares Randolph McAdams, inspector of Federal Prisons under President Harding. ‘‘We cannot hope to mend matters by prosecution or punishment... we must remove the cause.”

There is ample evidence to prove that the cause of vice and crime is ignorance and lack of moral training. During a census of Leavenworth Prison for one of the years of Mr. McAdams’ inspectorship, it was revealed that of the 3,294 prisoners, 2,382 had never reached high schools and that 450 could neither read or write. Only a thorough going acceptance of parental responsibilities and insistence upon education and moral training by the men and women of this nation will deliver posterity from a condition that has become appalling in its menace. Wherever the parents of today provide their children with moral inspiration and teach them a respect for clean living and clean thinking the problems of tomorrow will be solved.
