They are styled like the smart Chrysler eights carry out in the same fine man- j nry the distinctive lines and per- i formance characteristics of those • companion cars. Smartness, style, speed and performance are the keynotes of de- I sign. The engineers have produced i ant extremely graceful car in the length and lowness of the new Chrysler six by combining and unifying the body design with that of the double-drop frame. This new frame so successfully developed for the first time by Chrysler engineers for the Chrysler eight permits thi same low center of gravity and overall lowness of the new six. A more attractive appearance, better j balance, easier handling, finer riding qualities, better roadability and greater safety even at higher speeds on sharp turns, are a natural result. Two Cowl Ventilators Ihe new' Chrysler six carries the distinctive, slanting V-type radiator, i Wheelbase is 116 inches, overall length 175 7 inches and overall j height 67 inches. Hoods are long and low'. Bodies are of safety all- i steel construction, roomy, with a | maximum of clear vision and insul- I aled around the cowl, dash and ' under the floor coverings. The new Chrysler six comes in four body styles—a four-door sedan, Cbupe, convertible coupe and roadster, on which five wire wheels are standard. Many outstanding mechanical j features contribute to the fine per- j formance of this new car. The! engine is ol the famous high-corn-1 pression type pioneered by Chrys- , ler engineers. The bore jyid stroke | is 3'i inches by inches, with e j piston displacement of 217.8 cubic inches, giving a maximum brake horse power of 70. The engine is suspended at four points and rub- ! ber type mountings are used at; both front and rear. Aluminum Pistons The balanced and counter- i weighted crankshaft of great rigidity j i.s provided with an impulse j neutralizer. Pistons are of alumi- ; num alloy, steel-strut type, with j floating piston pins of chrome nickel alloy steel. Pistons are equipped with three compresion rings and one oil ring. All rings are above the piston pin. Intake valves of large diameter contribute also to the remarkable power of the new Chrysler six engine. The carburetor is of the pl%in tube with idling air adjustment, accelerating pump. and louvre-type copper-filled air cleaner. Positive force-feed lubrication forces cool oil under pressure from the ventilated crankcase to all crankshaft, camshaft and connecting rod bearings. The double-drop chassis frame is 6' ; inches deep with a maximum width of frame flange of 2 inches. There are 5 cross members exclusive of rear engine support. The long semi-elliptic front and rear springs through which the new Chrysler six gets its easy riding qualities are eased and relieved from rebound shocks by hydraulic shock absorbers. The safety of the car is assured and perfect control at all speeds maintained by the quick-acting, four-w heel, internal-expanding, hydraulic brakes operating on 11 inch drums. STEERING MADE EASIER Front Wheel Vibration Neutralized by New Hudson Device. Not a little of the increased driving comfort and ease of handling in the new Greater Hudson Eight is obtained through the introduction of an arm from the steering column which has a spring connection with the steering drag link controlling the front wheels. These springs act as shock absorbers. neutralizing front wheel vibration normally transmitted to the steering wheel. This new Greater Eight design has a decided dampening - influence on these reactions, elimintaing “steering wheel fight.” CARS WIRED FOR RADIO All Dodge Brothers Closed Models are Fitted with Aerials. All closed body models of Dodge Brothers new’ six and eight line as well as the standard six and eight line, are factory wired for the immediate installation of Transitone, the pioneer automobile radio. Wiring for Transitone specifications as standard equipment on closed body types saves the purchaser of an automobile radio the cost of installing an aerial and lead wires through the front body pillars to the instrument panel where the tuning dial is placed. SIDE SWAY IS REDUCED 1931 Willys-Overland Cars Have Double Drop Frames. Double drop frames are employed on all the 1931 Willys-Overland products. While this is no departure from standard practice in highpriced cars, it marks a progressive move in the field of low-priced sixes. Such a frame avoids to some extent the sway rounding a corner at speed, giving a comfortable sense of security. 76 Per Cent of Autos in U. S. PREDICTS HUGE GAIN Million More Cars Than '3O. Analyst Claims. The prediction that the automobile industry would lead the country out of the business depression by a production of a million more cars than last year was made today by Milan V. Ayres, analyst for the National Association of Finance Companies, who pointed out that the replacement of worn-out and junked cars this year should exceed the actual number of cars produced last year. In the analyst’s opinion, this year's production of new cars will exceed any year in history with the exception of 1929, “These computations show that more than three million cars will be retired this year, which is more than the total number of cars made and sold in this country in 1930,” Mr. Ayres said. “Furthermore, the 1930 production was scarcely more than enough to replace the cars normally worn out and scrapped in that year. Therefore, unless many people who have acquired the habit of riding in automobiles are going to go back to walking, 1931 must witness a very large increase in the number of cars produced.” WILLYS SIX SPEEDY Same Motor Used as One Which W’on Climbing Honors.
