IL DUCE WANTS ITALY IN VAN OF SEA TRADE Shipyards Busy and Boys Urged to Engage in Maritime Life, TUI* U the eighth article hr Webb Miller on Italy and Fascism BY WEBB MILLER United Press Staff Correspondent ROME, Feb. 11. Mussolini is striving to make Italy a great maritime commercial power and sovereign of the Mediterranean with the conviction that the nation’s economic and political destinies must be found on the seas. Fascism is applying a definite policy of encouragement to expansion of the merchant marine upon which the government is spending several hundred millions of lire during the present financial year This policy is based upon a remarkable series of state subsidies for shipbuilders and the passenger and merchant lines which are adjudged vital to the safety of communications and the national prestige. Asa result ship construction is expanding in a way unequaled. Building Liners In the first nine months of the past year 124,000 tons of shipping were laid down and thirty-five ships totaling 69,500 tons were launched. There are now m construction for foreign countries two cruisers and three submarines for Argentina, three gunboats for Paraguay, two tankers and two tugs for Uruguay, three merchant ships for Russia, four destroyers and two submarines for Turkey, two scout ships and one submarine for Rumania, four destroyers for Greece and four tankers for the American Standard Oil Company. Two great lines are now under construction which are expected to rank with the famous German liners, Europa and Bremen, in speed, size and manificence, and put Italy in the vanguard in the trans-Atlantic shipping lanes. Boys Go to Sea The Fascist Balilla organization, to foster love of seamanship, formed a marine divison for training boys in nautical matters. A headquarters where 2,JjPO Balilla boys can be trained in seamanship is being built at Anzio. The Balilla booklet summarizes the Fascist maritime policy with a quotation from Mussolini: “We are Mediterraneans, and our destiny has been and always will be on the seas.” NEXT: Excavation of Roman ruins, Greencastle Woman Dies By Times Special GREENCASTLE, Ind., Feb. 11.— Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Martha Fisk, 74, who died after a long illness. She was the mother of Earl Fisk, killed in action during the Spanish-American war and for whom the local post of veterans of that conflict is named. Other children are Mrs. Thomas Sweet, Greencastle, and Mrs. L. F. Hurt, Indianapolis. Best Remedy for Cough Is Easily Mixed at Home You’ll never know bow quickly a stubborn cough or chest cold can be conquered, until you try this famous recipe. It is used in millions of homes, because it gives more prompt, positive relief than anything else. It’s no trouble at all to mix and costs but a trifle. Into a pint bottle, pour 2% ounces of Pinex; then add plain granulated sugar syrup or strained honey to make a full pint. This saves two-thirds of the money usually spent for cough medicine, and gives you a purer, better remedy. It never spoils, and tastes good—children like it. You can actually feel its penetrating, soothing action on the inflamed throat membranes. It is also absorbed into the blood, where it acts directly on the bronchial tubes. At the same time, it promptly loosens the germ-laden phlegm. This three-fold action explains why it brings such quick relief even in severe bronchial coughs which follow cold epidemics. PiDex is a highly concentrated compound of genuine Norway Pine, containing the active agent of creosote, in a refined, palatable form, and known as one of the greatest healing agents for severe coughs, chest colds and bronchial troubles. Do not accept a substitute for Pinex It is guaranteed to give prompt relief or money refunded. —Advertisement.
