INVITATION TO - 0. S. REVIVES i LAFAYETTE ROW Descendants of Famous French Soldier Quarrel Over Who Is Who. * BY RALPH HEINZEN United Free. Staff Correspondent PARIS, Jan. 29.—An ancient controversy among the members of the Lafayette family has been reopened by an invitation for descendants of the famous soldier to attend the sesqul-centennial of the battle of Yorktown in America next October. The old quarrel unwittingly was revived by the United States state department in sending the invitation, and some doubt has been raised as to whether any of the actual blood descendants of Lafayette will So to America next autumn. The American embassy in Paris discovered there are a hundred or more Frenchmen and Italians who claim to be descendents, but among them there are but twenty or thirty actual blood descendents, and they are quarreling among themselves as to who is who. Agree on Real Head All agree the real master of the family tcday is Count Louis De Lasteyrle, last of his line and a direct descendant of Lafayette’s sec-ond-born daughter, Virginie, who married Colonel Marquis De Lasteyrie. - Count De Lasteyrle livetf in the Lafayette castle, La Grange, southeast of Paris, where hard times have reduced the estate to the beautiful stone-towered castle, its drawbridge snd moat and fifty acres of ground. The name of Lafayette actually became extinct with the death of Oscar and Edmond Lafayette, sons of Lafayette’s only son, George Washington Lafayette. Lafayette himself renounced the title of : xarquis when France became a republic. Some years ago a descendant of Oscar Lafayette, M. Pourcet De Sahume, went to the council of state and obtained legal permission to change his name to M. De SahuneLafayette. Family Quarrel Started That started a family war, for after getting the court’s permission to add the Lafayette with a hyphen, the bearer changed his name voluntarily to Marquis De Lafayette, droping his original name entirely. His son became Count Jacques De Lafayette, although there never before had been a count in the family. This angered other descendents who look upon Count Louis De Lasteyrie as the head of the family, holder of the family home. Count De Lasteyrie and other descendents indicated they will reuse to go to America if the Marquis De Lafayette or his son, Count De Lafayette, go under those names.

MUM A LAUGH IS COMING TO TOWN Those who have laughed themselves into a state bordering on apoplexy at uproariously Impossible antics of Joe E. Brown and Winnie Lightner in such plays as “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” “Hold Everything” and “Going Wild,” can have a slight conception of what would happen to patients unlucky enough to elect themselves inmates of the health institute which the two run in cahoots, as Dr. Winnie O’Neil and Jo Jo, in “Sit Tight,” which opens at the Apollo next Saturday. There is an exciting love story, too, in “Sit Tight,” which runs its rough course, not because of, but in spite of the two in charge. Claudia Dell is the pretty little rich girl, Sally, who, through her father, secures a better Job for Tom Weston, played by Paul Gregory. Weston refuses to take an unearned job, and after quarreling with Sally, leaves her father’s office, which is in the same building as the health institute. On the .way out, he meets the ingratiating Jo Jo, and Dr. Winnie, who induce him to train for the championship as a wrestler. Sally, hearing of the plan hires a professional tSugh to train with young Weston, in an effort to show him that he is not a wrestler. The professional mistakes Jo Jo for Tqjnmy and this gives vent to som- very hilarious moments. Others in the cast are Lotti Loder, Hobart Bosworth, Frank Hagney and Enitz Edwards. Lloyd Bacon directed. Indianapolis theaters today offer: “Hotel Universe” at the Civic; Junior Durkin at the Lyric; “Little Caesar” at the Indiana; "The Royal Family of Broadway” at the Circle; “Reducing” at the Palace; “The Criminal Code” at the Apollo; “Hell’s Angels” at the Ohio; movies at the Colonial, and, burlesque at the Mutual.

SITE OFFERED FOR IRVINGTON HIGH BUILDING Five Acres at Washington and Emerson Proposed for School. Five acres at the southwest comer of East Washington street and Emerson avenue, known as the Hilton U. Brown property, have been offered to the school board as a site for the proposed Irvington high school. The offer, consideration for which depends on appraisement, was presented to A. B. Good, business manager, by James W. Carr, president of the Union Development Company, who represents Brown. Plans for an Irvington high school were abandoned after the board secured property west and slightly south of the Brown site two years ago. This land owned by the board touches no street, but will when Pleasant Run boulevard Is extended. It is believed the present school board is not favorable to erection) of the proposed Irvington school because of the cost and because the six city high schools will accommodate 1,000 more pupils. School officials point out that facilities needed at Broad Ripple and now under construction must be attended to before further building projects are undertaken. Fire hazards at the latter school are to be investigated by Paul C. Stetson, superintendent, and a committee soon. Peanut in Lung Fatal EVANSVILLE, Ind., Jan. 29.
