PARIS SALONS SHOW STYLES FOR SUMMER Professional Buyers Start Work of Deciding What World Shall Wear. BY MARY KNIGHT Cftlt4 Pros Staff Correspondent PARIS, Jan. 22. Professional buyers today are buying the smart Paris creations which well-dressed women ot the world will be wearing next summer. Por the next month, Paris dressmakers will show their newest gowns and outfits, and even though it is bitter cold outside, the interior of the salons of the great couturieres look like garden parties. Prom the Rue Royale to the Rue De La Paix and in that ultra-rich half acre touched by the shadow of the Vendome column, there is a busy hum as seamstresses ply their needles. Smaller dressmaking firms are showing first, in an effort to get ■'ome of the patronage of American, German. Argentine, Spanish and London buyers. Attempts at Secrecy But the bigger firms still are busy, master minds looking serious as pencils sketch out ideas of new lines, new variations of hanging a drape or tucking a tuck. Foreladies rush around* the attic “ateliers” keeping little heads bent over the flimsy summer dresses in process of making. Everywhere there is a ridiculously amusing attempt at secrecy. Every one really tries to find out what the other person is making, without divulging any secrets of his own. Great Parties in Salons ft is like a great party in the salons, but not upstairs in the workshops, where $5-a-month midinettes are rushing to completion the Sl,too summer dresses that will be worn by smart women next August. Displays of summer collections, which started on Jan. 1, reached their height today. Hereafter four or five houses will open their salons every day, and the buyers will dash madly from one address to another from 9 a. m. until midnight It is a mad scramble to get a pretty model before some other buyer acquires it and the right to repeat its production in some New York loft. As fast as they are bought the models are rushed by airplane or train to a port and sent by the earliest of the fast steamers. OEPENDONZEMO .
