ENGINEERS TO BE IN DEMAND, SAYS SPEAKER College Association Hears Address by A. T. & T. Vice-President. Raise your boy to be an engineer! Parents received this advice today V’hen Colonel R. I. Rees, assistant vice-president of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, addressed college professors and presidents this afternoon at the opening session of the Association of American Colleges. ‘ A recent study made by a committee of the AmJncan Management Association, of which I am chairman, indicates future demands of business .well can be filled by men now graduating from colleges, out 'here seems to be real opportunities for more engineers than are graduating today,” he declared. Problems Are Related He told of the problems facing college men in business and praised the methods of schools in training men and women. "The peril of mass education is ignorance of results,” asserted Dean Melvin E. Haggerty of the University of Minnesota, in an address • on “Mass Education.” He urged more knowledge of what happens in the lives of students during their stay in college as a requisite to mass education. "The person who starts as a good teacher may end as a poor one,” averred Dr. Henry M. Wriston, president of Lawrence college, in discussing "Problems of Scholarship.” Taft, Erskine to Fpcak “The constant contact with immature minds constitutes a real danger to the profession because the competition always is unequal,” he said. Dr. John Erskine of New York, noted author, and Lorado Taft, Chicago sculptor, are scheduled to speak at the annual banquet of the I association at 7 tonight in the Claypool. Taft arrived in Indianapolis early today. He refused to be interviewed in his room at the Claypool with the plaint, “I have a cold and want to conserve my voice.” New Members Admitted Twenty colleges and universities were admitted today to membership in the association.
