AUTOMOBILE bargains beyond the fondest dreams of the motoring public fill city salesrooms today, as Used Car week is ushtered in by progressive dealers of Indianapolis. Better reconditioned cars, better prices, better terms—that sums up the situation. It heralds a business revival in this line that will extend to other industries and aid in the march back to prosperity, because it primarily will benefit the man of small income, the back-* bone of the consuming public. Dealafi are unanimous in their declarations that never before have their lines been so complete, with selections over a range wider than ever before in automobile sales history. Formerly a used car buyer gambled with fate when he became a purchaser. That is not the policy of today. Checked Thoroughly Before a used car reaches the salesroom floor, it is thoroughly checked from front to rear bumper, and all faulty parts replaced with new ones. The motors of some cars are rebuilt completely, to insure full satisfaction. The car then is washed and polished, the unholstery is cleaned, and the tires are checked. Many times new tires are placed on the wheels. It’s not just the high-powered sales talk that dealers are putting out this week. It’s hard facts. The cars will speak for themselves. Imagine, if you can, stepping into a salesroom and buying a snappy roadster, with all the trimmings, for S2OO to S4OO, that ordinarily would set you back S7OO to SI,OOO. It seems unbelievable, but it’ll be a common enough occurrence during the next week. Terms of the Best And if you have a family, you’ll discover that you can get that sedan, for which you gloomily observed you’d have to pay sl,soo,'for about half that sum. And that’s true of every model and virtually every make of automobiles. They’ve all joined in the procession, which means money in your purse right now, when it’s lather a hard-to-get commodity. Payment arrangements will be easy to make. The terms will surprise the most exacting and fit the leanest pocketbook. Every effort will be made by Indianapolis dealers for the next week

to give sales service to a degree never before approached here. “However, I don’t believe it’ll require much of a sales drive,” declares one salesman. “When Mr. and Mrs. Public step Into our display rooms most of the cars will just sell themselves. One good look and they won’t be able to resist.” Good Guarantee Given Going back to terms, which naturally interests every one except the bloated bondholder, a very small deposit will enable you to step into the car and drive away. You are given every ownership privilege throughout the months that you ; take to complete the payments on your car. You get the reliable guarantee of your dealer as to the machine’s condition and the length of service it can give, under norrfial conditions of use. You’ll find 99 per cent of these cars are recent models, with sound motor, sturdy chassis, attractive, ready at once to take to the open road, with all the freedom and smoothness you’d expect in the l highest price car, in shape to take you there and bring you back. Mr, “Bunny” Hare, who has been in business here for sixteen years, asserted today that in his whole experience he never had seen such opportunities for buyers as will be the rule this week. And this opinion is echoed by all the others interviewed. Dollar Goes Far “Your dollar will buy twice as much automobile value as it would a few years ago,” he says. “It is true economy now to trade in your old bus, that is developing rattles and heaves and losing its youthful beauty, for a newer and better model. You’ll find them everywhere. “And another thing that should make you pause and give thought is the fact that used car prices are

almost certain to make an upward trend in the next three months. Think that over and get your bargain while the getting Is so unusually good.” And now that all the talk of pleasure cars is over, it’s worth while to devote a little space to sec-ond-hand trucks, and we’ll let L. C. White; manager of the General Motors Truck Company, review and forecast a little for yised truck buyers. Says Mr. White: “While the year 1930 was not as productive from a standpoint of new truck sales, it was productive from a standpoint of used truck sales. It also afforded an interesting study in the type of used trucks sold and the class of organizations who purchased this second-hand equipment. Sold to Companies “Our analysis shows that quite a large percentage of these trucks were sold to representative companies, and it proved to our satisfaction, at least, that these companies were convinced that there was such a thing as a second-hand truck which still had a considerable mileage value. “There has been an impression existing, perhaps justly, in the minds of many people, that a sec-ond-hand motor truck was ‘second hand’ and unproductive, because it was a wornout vehicle. “In our own case we developed a plan in 1930 w T hereby all secondhand trucks were completely inspected by our service department before accepting them in trade, and if these units involved any investment on our part, they immediately were put through our shop as quickly as they became our property. “They then were placed on our salesroom floor and shown to those people interested in their exact condition. Analysis Is Made “We felt that in purchasing a second-hand truck, the concern

which bought this unit was buying a certain number of miles, exactly in the same manner that one of our customers would purchase anew unit. We felt that we were qualified to know, approximately, at least, how many pay miles still remained in this unit. “We attempted, in a great many cases, to analyze the prospects’ needs and recommended to them a unit which we thought best was qualified to do their particular work. “In the final analysis, we found that these sales, so far as our customers were concerned, and so far as we, ourselves, were concerned, were particularly gratifying and the fact that many of these customers have pm-chased not only one, but several, used trucks from this company, is proof abundance that there is dollar value in a good sec-ond-hand motor truck, provided the truck is purchased from the proper people and has had the benefit of a thorough going-over in an up-to-date shop. “Needless to say, with the success of this sales plan during 1930, we lire going to follow the same procedure during 1931, and from there on. Those customers who are anticipating the purchase of a second-hand motor truck will receive the same careful attention by this company as those who are purchaslng new motor trucks.” CENTRAL 3UICK ASSURED TRANSPORTATION DAILY BARGAIN 1928 Pontiac Coupe, $163 1930 Buick sedan 945 1930 Ford coupe, practically new... 435 1929 Ford sport roadster 195 1930 Roosevelt sedan 545 1929 Jordan coupe, side mts 695 , 1929 Model A Ford Tudor 223 1929 Buick Master sedan 695 1929 Chrysler 75 sedan 675 1928 Chrysler 72 sedan 475 1938 Chrysler 62 coach 325 1928 Buick master coupe 475 1928 Essex 4-door sedan 225 1928 Buick standard coach 345 1928 Paige sedan 225 1323 Oldsmobile • cport coupe 445 1927 Reo Flying Cloud coupe 295 1927 Buick master brougham 375 1927 Buick master coach 245 1927 Studebaker 4-pass, coupe 225 1927 Buick 7-pass, sedan 325 1927 Olds, do luxe sedan 195 1927 Essex 4-door sedan 93 1927 Buick standard coach 195 1926 Buick master sedan 193 1926 Buick master conch 125 1926 Chrysler 70 coach 145 1926 Oldsmobile coupe 125 1925 Paige sedan 125 1925 Buick coupe 60 1924 Nash sedan 65 Many Others to Choose From Terms Through GMAC—Fair Appraisals.
