Press) PARIS, Jan. 14.—Intelligence men throughout Europe credit Russia with the most efficient espionage service, and refer with admiration to the “Eye of Moscow.” These "eyes” are Communists. They live for a cause. Few of them are the sort of “professionals” engaged by European governments. Most of them are private citizens, who see in Communism the salvation of the workers of the world. They report to their local organization, and these in turn report to central offices. It has been said that "Moscow watches the world go round through a million eyes,” and police In Balkanic Europe are inclined to believe that is not much of an over-estimate. Recent hauls by Rumanian and Bulgarian police have netted many Communist spies, while Latvia and Finland during the past summer shoved as many more over the frontier. Spying in Every Field Every Communist, regardless of nationality, is an enthusiastic "eye of Moscow.” The archives of Communist organizations are crammed with information of every sort which these voluntary spies furnish and which will take years to classify. This spying Is in every field, commercial, industrial, military, diplomatic, religious and personal. The spies in the active employ of the Russian government are a very small proportion. Russia needs fewer "professionals” than most other powers. There are Polish, French, German, British, Balkan and Italian spies. The Balkans axe overrun with spies. There are so many that they bring a certain prosperity to the country. Hold Important Offices Some spend their days and nights spying, others spy on the spies. All are free spenders and they work in bands which are difficult t-** hide from the eyes of the police. In all the countries of Europe Communists have filtered into national administrations, postoffices, armies, navies, mines and factories. Communists have their fingers on the pulse of Europe. In factories spies watch chemists and engineers and give detailed reports of new secret processes of manufacture, formulas for steel alloys, production costs and market conditions, VET; Germany's espionage system, n ewTrafTTcsTgnal WILL BE TRIED OUT Pedestrians May Operate Device When Crossing Street, New type of traffic signal In Indianapolis will be installed within a few days at Fourteenth and Meridian streets. The device, known as the electromatic signal, operates with the “go” light continually showing on Meridian street for autos and does not change until autos strike a control board on Fourteenth street. Pedestrians control the sign by operating push buttons on each corner. This halts all auto traffic until pedestrians pass. The Hoosier Motor Club is paying half the cost of installation and approval has been given by authorities of Cathedral high school and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church. JOBLESS CURE SOUGHT Churches to Hold National Meeting on Unemployment. The conference is sponsored by the social justice committee of the central conference of American Rabbis, the social service commission of the federal council of the Churches of Christ in America and the social action department of the National Catholic Welfare conference. This will bring together the Jews, Protestants and Catholics of the nation to solve, if possible, what the polltcians have failed to solve. First Jeweler Dies HAMMOND, Ind., Jan. 14.—Meyer Rubin, 79, Hammond's first Jeweler, is dead. He was one of the founders of Beth-El temple here.
