Movie Rescue Cop, Probing Holdup, Finds Youth Left Asleep in Theater.
IF Merchant Policeman John Greer, 2526 California street, had not investigated a burglary early today, Charles Lace, 15, of 2112 Woodlawn avenue, would have been absent without leave and unaccounted for at breakfast roll call this morning. Charley is something of a movie fan. He enjoys one showing of a picture, revels in the second, and, if he was fortunate to get in often stays as many as three performances. It's bad on the eyelids, Charley will tell you. It literally drags them down, and four times within a few weeks Charley has lasted only a show or two before dozing away in his seat. Usually the janitor ousts him in time to trek home. But somehow the janitor of the Cozy theater, 136 North Illinois street, missed the boy Monday night. At any rate, as merchant policeman Greer passed the door he noticed it ajar. Entering he found a candy and gum machine had been smashed. Ready to summon city police aid, Greer halted a moment in the vestibule. From somewhere in the auditorium there emerged a lusty snore. Patrolmen Charles O. Johnson and Philip J. Deßarr went with Greer to investigate. In row 2 slept Charley. They took him home first assuring themselves he had not heard the burglars, who took a small amount of money from the machines. ‘Tiger’s Grandson to Wed By United Press PARIS, Jan. 6.—Engagement of Pierre Clemenceau, grandson of the late Georges Clemenceau, famous “tiger” of France, and Mile.
