GRAIN FUTURES HOLD TO DULL TRADING RANGE ■4 Lack of Confidence Blamed for Small Support; Corn Firm. By United Press CHICAGO. Dec. 30.— Wheat was steady and practically unchanged on the Board of Trade today. Trade was light, with buying and selling evenly balanced. Foreign markets were relatively strong. It is understood that Premier Bennett of Canada will pledge the pool federal support in his address tonight. Chairman L-egge was reported as saying the farm board would rec- . ommend an embargo should world prices fall to levels which would make imports into the United States possible. He indicated prices still were 10 cents above this dangerous level. Corn again was firm, with oats following the lead of that grain Traders Cautious At the opening wheat was ‘-s cent lower to % cent higher, corn was % cent lower to % cent higher and oats were % cent lower to '* cent higher. Provisions were steady, but December lard was weak on liquidation. Buenos Aires was unchanged during the morning, while Liverpool steadied around % to % cent lower at midafternoon. The gradual sinking of wheat prices to the lowest levels in years makes wheat traders decidedly cautious about pressing the bear side. However, the decline has not brought in investment buying chiefly because confidence is lacking. Com Is Sold December and May wheat have been stabilized about 20 cents above the world parity, but this has had no effect on the other months. Corn liquidation continues. The fundamentals of corn itself are bullish, yet there is no letup in the selling, as confidence is lacking here as in other pits. December corn is about 16 cents under December wheat and at a ratio of 13 to 1 as compared to hog prices. The situation in oats is much similar to that in corn. There is a good demand and supplies are not overabundant, yet prices continue with other cereals. Chicago Grain Table WHEAT (Old)— DCC ' 30 Prev. High.
