WEAK FOREIGN REPORTS SEND FUTURES DOWN Much of Grain Trade Going to Winnipeg Due to Farm Board, By United Press CHICAGO, Dec. 19.—Weakness in foreign markets broke July wheat sharply on the Board of Trade today, the price failing to the lowest point of the season, set on Wednesday. The other deliveries were around steady under the stabilization influence. Liverpool slumped on heavier shipments from the southern hemisphere with confidence lacking. Com sagged sharply to within % to 72 cent of the lows of the season. Oats eased a minor fraction in sympathy with the major grains. At the openingj wheat was 14 cent lower to 14 cent higher, with July off T 4 to 114 cent; corn was % to T 4 cent lower and oats were 14 to 14 cent down. Provisions were very strong. Liverpool Slumps Liverpool was lower than expected and declined further to l!4c to l%c lower at mid-afternoon. Buenos Aires was off 14 c early. Wheat traders hold largely to the idea that there will be no change for the better until some bullish development affects the world situation. There appears to be a large short interest in July but, while that month is 20c above a world parity, traders fear to further extend short sales owing to the probability that the farm board will control the .entire visible supply by the end of July. Much of the trade is going to Winnipeg where the market is free from' restrictions. * Oats Depressed The movement of corn is keeping up in a somewhat larger volume than had been expected. A great part of the cash article which comes to Chicago arrives on consignment and never appears on the market. Country offerings are being held above buyers’ prices. Weakness in com depresses oats from time to time, but it is being noticed that buying of oats against sales of corn also is being done. The market has been adhering to a narrow range. APPEALS FOR DRYSUPPORT, No-Liquor Society Hostesl May Advise Hoover. F}t United Press WASHINGTON, Dec. 18.—A n appeal for the women of America to support prohibition was made here Thursday night by Mrs. Ruth G. K. Strawbridge, Philadelphia society leader, who a year ago gained considerable attention by urging society hostesses to refrain from serv ing liquor. ‘ Mrs. Strawbridge was a guest a$ President Hoover's official dinner for Vice-President Curtis. She intimated she might carry a prohibition message directly to the President. The real issue, Mrs. Strawbricig® said, is “whether a democracy has the power to enforce its own lawa in the face of a whirlwind of opposition, and whether law-breakers shall dictate the character of ou* legislation.” KAW SUGAR PRICES —Dec. 18— * High.
