CRUDE CULTURE IN WORLD OF ANCIENTGIANTS Archaeology Expert Believes People Merely Were Tall Race. BY BYRON H. CUMMINGS JV an of Archaeology. University of Arizona. for the United Pres*) TUCSON. Arlz., Dec. 19.—The sudden ending of our expedition to Sonora in search- of remnants of a supposed race of giants has left me without direct substantiation of this matter, although indications at the excavation site were that several interesting discoveries were in prospect. The body of a youth six feet, eight inches tall was our most Important find. An examination of the skeleton showed it was that of a young male. It was the largest of thirteen Skeltons we found, but the other fossilized bones gave us important knowledge of the type of people that lived in that vicinity some 2,000 years ago. We were unable to proceed farther toward the place where it was indicated the skeltons of more adults were burled. The unfriendliness of the Mexicans, who leased the land, and the attitude of the Yaqui natives made it impossible for us to stay. People of Crude Culture All pottery found was coarse gray or black ware in the shape of small urns. These were all in stratums In which we found cinenary urns and pockets of calcined bone ashes. With skeletons on lower levels we found a few flat shell beads, two shell pendants, made of petunculus shells, also rubbing stones. These people evidently were of an exceedingly crude culture. It is very likely that they occupied dugouts with brush coverings. Craniums Foot Long The shape of the skulls was a peculiar characterization. The craniums of some of the men were more than a foot long. This is a characteristic which indicates they were connected with the “Pithouse” people of Arizona, evidences of which have been uncovered before. There is no question that we found a heretofore unknown burial ground and I believe the relics justified our expedition. No one can say whether we would have found evidences of a race of giants, but the discoveries gave rise to our hopes. I am sure the burial ground holds many important relics.
—ADVERTISEMENT—MARION NIXON FINDS QUICK WAY TO GET RID OF A COLD
Keeps From Spoiling ‘Talkie” By Cough—Doctors Advised Method Popular Here Marion Nixon is still another, like scores of Hollywood stars, who have taken the advice of physicians and found how quickly colds disappear after a few pleasant doses of Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral. For in Hollywood, as in hundreds of Indianapolis homes, this hospital tested remedy has become standard treatment for colds. "My director was frantic,” says Miss Nixon, "when I arrived at the studio with a terrible cold, which had started in my head and spread down into my chest. I was simply too hoarse to work. It was very clear that unless I could end the cold quickly there would either be expensive delay or the risk of coughing or sneezing while the photoplay was being recorded. •‘Within a few minutes after I was given a pleasant spoonful of Ayer’s Pectoral, I was relieved by its comfortable, healing warmth. That night, I was able to enjoy refreshing sleep, which had been impossible the night before. The next morning I felt a great deal better and by afternoon my voice cleared up so that I could continue making the picture. In a day or so, all disagreeable symptoms 'of my cold had disappeared entirely.”
