SEPARATION OF EDUCATOR HELD SUIGIDEJAUSE Wife Had Left Home of California Man After Domestic Quarrels. By United Prete LOS ANGELES, Dec. 19.—Warren Bradley Bovard, vice-president of the University of Southern California, killed himself because of domestic difficulties and poor health, it was agreed today. The coroner announced there would be no inquest. From friends It was learned that Bovard’s widow, Mrs. Berdine Jackman Bovard, now visiting in Wichita, Kan., would not return to his home here. “When Mrs. Bovard left for the middle west, Bovard understood she was not coming back,” an executive of the university said today. “Despite reports to the contrary, the separation was to be permanent and one of the parties was to obtain a divorce. "Depression over the separation, coupled with recent ill health, drove him to suicide.” The body of Bovard, who was 45, was found by a house guest, Louis B. McWhirter. On a table was a note reading: "Goodby, Bleanle, am going to look for Ned.” Bleanle was the nickname for Mrs.

‘VIRTUOUS SIN’ IS NOW AT THE CIRCLE “Orchestra Without a Name” to Compete With Hal Rotherd’s Collegians at the Indiana Roof Tonight. "'T'HE VIRTUOUS SIN,” Walter Huston’s most recent talking picture, A had its premiere at the Circle, Thursday evening at 9:30 o’clock. This Paramount production is a story of the romance between a warembittered Russian army officer and a married woman. Incidentally, the Tegular engagement of “The Virtuous Sin.” which will last for only six days, is to come to a close next Wednesday evening in order to make way for the premiere of Jackie Coogan in “Tom Sawyer.” Walter Huston has the role of a stern Russian general who falls in love with Kay Francis. She portrays a Russian girl who has set out to win his favor in order to gain the freedom of a young army officer

(Kenneth Mac Kenna), sentenced to death. The girl does not reveal the fact that the condemned man is her husband. Against her will, she actually falls in love with the general, bringing about the climax. “The Virtuous Sin” was adapted by Martin Brown, an American playwright, from Lajos Zilahy’s drama, “The General,” a Hungarian piece. Its screen direction is the joint work of George Cukor, dialogue director of “All Quiet on the Western Front," and Louis Bovard, it was pointed out, while “Ned” was declared to be Edward L. Doheny Jr., who was killed by his secretary nearly two years ago. Bovard and young Doheny, son of the oil magnate were classmates at the university and close personal friends throughout their lives. Doheny made many gifts to the school. Mrs. Bovard was reported en route here today from Wichita to attend the funeral service.

Gasnier, maker of William Powell’s “Shadow of the Law.” Besides the principals, the -cast includes Jobyna Howland, Oscar Apfel, Paul Cavanaugh and Eric Kalkhurst, a former Stuart Walker player here. The Circle’s new program includes Dale Young at the organ in a solo called “Let’s Go Shopping.” Ruth Etting, recording singer, is featured in “One Good Turn,” a short audible film subject. Hal Rotherd and his Collegians, who will appear in the ballroom for the first time. The Rotherd aggregation will come here from De Pauw university where its members are students. Friday night’s engagement will mark the opening of a holiday tour, which will take them into the east. Tom Devine, manager of the local ballroom, who reviewed the orchestra, reports a typical collegiate aggregation. Devine says: "However, this lively collegiate outfit is going to find real competition when it meets the nameless orchestra which we are featuring on the roof.
