SPAIN CLAIMS REVOLT DEAD; PREMIER ILL Berenguer Is Forced to •Abandon Duties After Crisis Passes. By T.'prte<l Pro* MADRID, Dec. 17.—Premier General Damaso Berenguer was forced by illness today to abandon his duties temporarily, while the government claimed to have dominated the concerted attempt at nationwide revolution. The premier was confined to his bed with an attack of tonsilitis. He was reported feverish, but not seriously 111. Officials ' t ne ministry of the interior declined to comment on reports published abroad that revolts were arising in various parts of the country and that the rebels were gaining the upper hand. The reports were called too absurd to merit denial. Reports to the United Press from its correspondents in the principal cities of Spain said that strict martial law continued, but that no serious outbreaks has occurred. The situation appeared potentially more dangerous in Barcelona, where the labor stoppage was reported spreading, than in other cities. Strikers derailed a 'ocomotive near Victoria, but no damage was clone.

New Governor
• f§
Governor-elect Arthur Seligman, above, of New Mexico, who takes office in January, will be the second native-born New Mexican ever to hold that office—and this despite the fact that New Mexico’s succession of Governors dates back to 1598, when the first Spanish Governor took office. Mr. Seligman was born at Santa Fe in 1873, and is president of a bank there.

ATTACKS, KILLS GIRL TEACHER IN SCHOOLROOM Missouri Murderer Is Hunted by Posse After Body Is Found. By Vnited Pro* MARYVILLE. Mo.. Dec. 17.—A posse of 100 men today sought the unidentified slayer of Miss Velma Coulter, 19, who was attacked and killed in a county school house where she taught. The countryside, shocked by the discovery of the body Tuesday night, joined in attempting to apprehend the murderer, but with only meager information. Bloodhounds were used but failed, in the cold and darkness, to pick up the trail of the slayer, and were taken from the hunt shortly after midnight. “ Will New, young farmer, told Sheriff England he had seen a man lurking near the school Tuesday. The prowler, leaped behind a tree

to avoid being seen when Miss Coulter emerged from the building, New said. The young teacher's body was found by T. H. Thompson, at whose home she lived. He went to the school when she did not arrive home at the usual time. Entering the room, he came upon her body. She had been beaten on the head and her clothing was torn from her body. Disarrangement of furnishings of the room and blood stains on the floor indicated she had struggled to protect herself. Miss Coulter was serving her first term at the school. She attended high school here, was graduated in 1928. and was enrolled for one year in the Maryville Teachers’ college. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Coulter, live on a farm eight miles from here. 500 TO ATTEND PARTY More than five hundred members of the Indianapolis White Shrine are expected to attend the lodge's Christmas party and ceremonial tonight at 6 at the Claypool. Mrs. Maudalin Marshall, worthy high priestess, will preside at the dinner and ceremonial, assisted by Walter King, watchman of the shepherd. Delegations from Terre Haute, Anderson, Lafayette, Elkhart and Bedford are expected.
