(WEALTHY JUDGE [ FACING OUSTER Loans to N. Y. Politician Related in Probe. B'J United Press >F.W YORK. Dec. 17.—Magistrate Louis B. Brodsky, who has been described as ‘New York's wealthiest magistrate,” may face “cause” proceedings before the appellate division unless he resigns as a result of testimony taken in the official investigation into his financial, judicial and political dealings, it was reported today. The hearings were concluded 1 Tuesday with Brodsky on the stand three times. Nine other witnesses, including Edward J. Byrne, son-in-'aw of James J. Hagan, who wa3 Tammany leader in Brodsky's dis- ; rict and who recommended him for the bench, also testified. Byrne said that he had received $5,000 from the magistrate in June, 1923, and another SI,OOO a year later. The larger item, Byrne testified, represented repayment of a loan and the SI,OOO was a loan from Brodsky. Byrne said he had no bank account, but kept his money in a “little tin box” at home. Through his interrogation, Isidor J. Kcrsel, special counsel for the appellate. brought out that $30,000 in gifts, some wedding presents, found t heir way Into the box. The witness raid the money came from his father-in-law. Brodsky declared on the stand that all his dealings with Byrne were legitimate business transact ions. NEW U. S. Vacancies exist in fifteen of the United States district attorneyships 'throughout the country, twelve new federal judges soon are to be appointed, and there arc twenty posts to be filled soon among United States marshals. Among the important United States district attorneys offices now or soon to be. vacant arc those in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Detroit and Boston. In Baltimore, a successor must he named to Colonel Amos W. W. Woodcock, who last July 1 became director of the federal prohibition forces. 12 Arkansas Banks Closed Hu United Press LITTLE ROCK, Ark..
