50 MEN TO BE GIVEN WORK BY RELIEF GROUP Creating of Public Jobs to Be Begun at Once by New Corporation. Fifty men will be put to work on public jobs Wednesday through efforts of the emergency work committee of the Indianapolis commission for stabilization of employment which started active operation today with filing of articles of incorporation. The committee's tentative plans call only for giving employment to heads of families selected by taxsupported and Community Fund supported welfare agencies, A. Kiefer Mayer, chairman, said. Later the committee intends to endeavor to stimulate employment for other jobless men. Headquarters Opened All jobs provided will be on public projects and wages will be paid out of a fund derived from proceeds of the Shortridge-Cathedral Thanksgiving day charity football game, an appropraition from the Community Fund and gifts expected by the committee. Later, Mayer said, if private employment can be found and men placed, the wages will be paid by tlie employers. Headquarters for the committee were opened today at the Shell Petroleum Corporation building, 318 North Meridian street, in rooms donated by the company. City, school city and county departments are co-operating with the committee in creating jobs on projects planned by department heads, but not included in their budgets. Consequently regular employes will be displaced. Incorporators Named In announcing start of operations, Mayer emphasized the fact that applications for employment made directly to the committee headquarters can not receive attention now. Members of the committee, who also are the incorporators, besides Mayer, are: George P. Torrence, L-’nk Belt Company, vice-president: Herman P. Lieber, Merchants Association, president; J. A Goodman. chairman of the Real Silk Mills directors; Irving W. Lemaux, Security Trust Company president; W. H. Trimble, Indianapolis Legion president; Bowman Elder, realtor; William E. Holmes.
