body of Flavius Donaldson, pilot. Fifty feet away were the bodies of Miss Je.n Markow, the passenger, and George Rogers, mechanic, covered by a light fall of snow. All had been killed instantly. Donaldson died with his hand on the wide-open throttle. It was necessary to cut away the fuselage to free his body. Coroner C. N. Houze and Captain Leroy Galyen of the state motorcycle squad reported that the plane's clock had stopped eight minutes after Donaldson had radioed his home port Monday chat he was “above the fog” and did “not know his position.” Donaldson apparently v;?s aware of his approximate location at the time his plane dived herdlong into the hillside, for he was leading directly for the emergency landing field. It was evident he iodized he had dropped from 9,000 feet to 4,500 feet in the eight minutes, for the ship hit the ground with the throttle wdle open, indicating that he was again attempting to gain altitude. Three hundred pounds of mail, intact in the wreckage was forwarded to its destination. ANOTHER TRIP TO THE WEST ARRIVES Apollo Has a Booking by the Name of “The Big Trail” Which Brings a New Leading Juvenile to This City. WHEN Raoul Walsh’s “The Big Trail” opens its engagement at the Apollo. Saturday, it will show an authentic portrayal of a mighty surging wave of humanity that came from the east into the west a century ago. For example, “Brcck” Coleman, the leading male character, enacted by John Wayne, is a boy bom on the trail who has lost his parents and who spends much of his time with the Indian tribes by whom he is greatly respected. From the age of 5 he has been a wanderer, a fur

trapper, scout and hunter. His main reason for joining the tion for Ruth Cameron, a member of the pioneer band, played by Marguerite Churchill, and also because he feels that the murderers of his benefactor and friend are either with the wagon train or will catch up with it. When the trail reaches the point where the pioneers are in danger from the Indians “Breck’s” counsel is always to palaver with the redskins rather than fight with them. Several times he is seen leaving the wagon train, and advancing to

wagon train as scout is his admirawhere the smoke from Indian teepees indicate danger. And on each of these occasions an Indian brave is seen advancing to meet him. In these sequences the careful observer will note that “Breck” goes forward in a zig-zag course, which is the Indians’ sign of truce. Hal G. Evarts, who wrote the story for “The Big Trail,” is an authority on the old and new west, and his complete knowledge of incidents and customs such as the one mentioned
