GUARD AGAINST DRIVE TO PUT CROWNON OHO Hungary Fears Hapsburg *Putsch , on Birthday Eve of Archduke. By United Prett BUDAPEBT, Not. 19.—Possibility of a putsch for restoration of the Hapsburg dynasty to the Hungarian throne was seen in Hungary today, on the eve of the eighteenth birthday of Archduke Otto, young son of the ex-Empress Zita. Otto will be 18 Thursday and will become of age by what is known as the “house law” of the Hapsburgs. But for the dethronement law of 1921, passed under duress due to pressure of the Little Entente powers, he would become king of Hungary. Experiences of the last ten years gave Hungarians sufficient cause to be apprehensive of a putsch. Hardly three months ago the whole of the military and gendarmerie received a secret order to watch all frontiers and roads leading to the capital. "Trial Balloon” Is Proposed “Should a woman clad in mourning, accompanied by a young man of about 18. be observed travelling in a motorcar, they are to be stopped, taken to a police station, and their identity established,” the order read. The woman and the young man against whom such precautions were taken are ex-Empress Zita and Archduke Otto. Speculation here on possible procedure of the supporters of the Hapsburgs Thursday included the launching of a “trial balloon,” to test the reaction of diplomatic circles. According to rumors, legitimists desire the presidents of both houses of parliament to declare the dethronement law of 1921 null and void, because it was passed under foreign oompulsion. Want Link With Italy This would give Otto the opportunity to enter into his rights as king, and the attitude of the great powers, the position of parliament and the constitution, and other conditions relating to the return of the Hapsburgs would be made clear in due course. An alleged plan for the marriage of Otto and Princess Maria, youngest daughter of the king and queen of Italy, is said to be among the aims of the legitimists. It is known important conversations have taken place in Rome between Count Stephen Bethlen, Hungarian premier; Count Albert Apponyl. legitimist leader, and Premier Mussolini. SCOUTS INVITED TO BUTLER GRID CONTEST Ten Thousand Will Attend Haskell Game in Bowl Saturday. Ten thousand Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and Girl Reserves are expected to cheer Butler university’s grid team in iti contest with Haskell in the. Butler bowl Saturday. A state-wide invitation has been issued jointly by Butler and the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, and indications point to a large acceptance by members of the four invited organizations. Prizes are offered for the best appearance of the organizations in the parade preceding the game. Judges are: General George H. Jamerson, General M. G. Henley and Robert L. Moorhead. Attendance prizes also are offered with a large Butler pennant going to all troops having more than 90 per cent of their registered membership in attendance, and smaller ones for troops having from 80 to 90 per cent present. ADOPT CONSTITUTION AT LOAN CONFERENCE Ninety Finance Company Managers Attend Convention Here. Ninety Indiana loan company managers met in the Lincoln today for the sixteenth semi-annual managers’ conference of Indiana Association of Personal Finance Companies. This afternoon they were to adopt anew constitution and by-laws. At luncheun they heard Charles Parker supervisor of the.personal finance division of the state banking department, in an address, “Famous Twenty Minutes." Speakers this morning were: George W. Farrington, manager of Commonwealth Loan Company; I. Glosfon. manager Lincoln Loan Company, and E. J. Franck, manager Beneficial Loan Society, all of Indianapolis. This afternoon F. E. Jurgensmeier manager of the Household Finance Corporation, and Roy F. Hartz president of the American Loan Company, Indianapolis, were to speak. APPEAL TO LESLIE TO APPOINT JUDGE Newton County Delegation Cites Derision of Supreme Court. A delegation of Rensselaer residents appealed-to Governor Harry G. Leslie s office today for appointment of a Newton county circuit judge. It was claimed that the supreme court decision holding valid a statute passed in the last legislature, which separated the Newton and Jasper county and the GrantDel&ware circuit authorized the Governor to appoint a Judge for the new district. The delegation, including W. C. Cunningham, who was elected to the judgeship in the November election, alleged that Judge George A. Williams, present circuit Judge, has refused to hear Newton county cases because of the supreme court decision. Dry Spies Were Drunk, Charges | Girl irt Court | Hotel Keeper’s Daughter Saves Man From Prison Term. By United Prett HAMMOND, Ind., Nov. 19.—Testimony of a hotel keeper's daughter describing the alleged intoxicated condition of two Anti-Saloon League investigators was responsible for John H. Randall's escape from a heavy prison sentence. Miss Mary Purcell of Monticello testified in federal court here that Edward Shouse and Walter Henderson. agents of the league were intoxicated. She was a defense witness in the trial of Randall on a liquor charge. The agents testified they purchased liquor at Randall’s summer resort at Monticello. Federal Judge Thomas W. Slick declared he could not send a man to prison “on such nauseating testimony,” and fined Randall SIOO when a jury found him guilty. Testified Cops The Walter Henderson charged in the Randell case with being intoxicated is said to be the same man W ho testified for the government in the trial of Indianapolis policemen last week. It was brought out on cross-examination that Henderson had been convicted of a felony in Fayette county. He was recommended to John Wllkey, former dry administrator here, by the Anti-Saloon League, it was declared. Legal Notices NOTICE TO CREDITORS. ETC.
