LEGION'S CHIEF URGES TRIBUTE TO WAR DEAD National Head Pledges His Efforts in Promotion of World Peace. Urging a need of tribute be paid the World war dead and pledging the American Legion to the promotion of International good will, Ralph T. O'Neil, national com-
mander of the legion, addressed an Armistice day message to Indiana and the nation today. “Armistice day is a day of peculiar significance to the men and women who today make up the ranks of the legion. It brings back vivid memories of war-time service, of com-

radeships forged under shell fire, on the sea, in the training camps,” he said. “The silence that fell on the western front at exactly 11 a. m. twelve years ago today was most welcome to the men in service. Remind Us of Read Although today commemorates a great military victory and primarily is a day of rejoicing, it should remind us of the thousands who fought and died for their country to make victory possible. "In honor of those dead heroes it is fitting that we should pause a moment today and meditate on , their matchless patriotism. “The American Legion ever is mindful of the sacrifices war demands and is pledged to promote international good will. “The legion is not militaristic,” he continued,” as some choose to believe, but it does insist upon adequate national defense that will insure complete’ protection to the American people and American property, a defense that will not find us unprepared in the event of another armed conflict.” Program in Place “Just as the legionnaires served in time of war. so is the legion pledged to a program of continued • service in peace. “The American Legion joins with the public in observing another anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, grateful for the victory that was ours and the twelve years’ peace that have since prevailed, and with the sincere hope that our days of peace will continue without end," he concluded. OIL COMPANY LEADS IN CURBING OUTPUT Entire World Staggering Under Weight of Surpluses, Says Expert. Hu United Frees CHICAGO, Nov 11.—With the entire world staggering under the weight of raw material surpluses, the petroleum industry has taken the lead in restricting outputs to meet demand, oil men from all parts of the nation were told today by E. B. Reeser, president of the American Petroleum institute, at the organization's annual convention. The immediate outlook for the industry depends, he said, upon ‘the rapidity with which general conditions improve and the ability of producers, refiners and marketers to adapt operations to the changed conditions under which operations must be conducted.
