LOWER CABLES FORCE FUTURE MARK-DOWN Conflicting News Reports Add Uncertain Tone to Grains. Bv United Press CHICAGO, Oct. 31.—Wheat was easy on the Board of Trade today in a very light trade. There was moderate selling on the weakness at Liverpool and the easy tone to stocks, but no real pressure was in evidence at the start. Liverpool was weak, there being some short covering in October early, but the large Russian supplies more depressing. Corn again was lower and oats were about steady. At the opening wheat was unchanged to Vi cent lower; com was % to % cent lower, and oats were unchanged to V* cent lower. Provisions were about steady. Liverpool was uneven, October being higher due to the fact that this is the last delivery day. but the other months were weak, He to %c lower at midday. A majority of traders have no pronounced opinion on the future trend of wheat and think that opinions are valueless in the present surroundings. Liquidation in December is starting in addition to the influence expected by the large available supplies. The presence of rust in Argentina where harvesting will begin shortly has caused some buying of Manitobas by Europe. Increasing receipts and lower cash prices have depressed com. There has also been some unloading of December contracts, adding to the pressure. The colder weather will increase feeding but the farmers have been using substitutes and sending their best com to the market. Oats continues to follow corn and other feed grains. The market rules quiet and featureless. Chicago Grain Table —Oct. 31WHEAT (Old) Prey. Hlßh. Low. 11:00 close. Bv United Press CHICAGO. Oct. 31—“ Sex appeal is not an issue, nor should any citizen of Chicago think of casting a senatorship into the lap of a lady who wishes to cuddle it as a doll,” James Hamilton Lewis, Democrat, Illinois senatorial candidate, told a huge stockyards district crowd Thursday night. “Jim Ham,” of the pink whiskers and immaculate attire, assailed the eighteenth amendment, laid “hard timeo" at the door of the Republican party and charged Mrs. Ruth Hanna McCormick, his O. O. P. opponent, with "seeking to buy the honor of being the first woman ever elected to the United States senate.”

KIDNAP GANG OUTWITTED BY BANKER'S WIFE Yocum Is Released When Package of Sticks Is Laid by Bridge. Bu United Press KEWANEE, 111., Oct. 31.—A blonde, blundering amateur bandit whose smile belled his reputation as a desperado, today told officials how he and three companions kidnaped Earl L. Yocum, millionaire Galva banker, held him for ransom and were outwitted by the banker's wife Into releasing their victim without collecting a cent. With Vern Algren, 30. under arrets here, and Orville Whiskers, another of the kidnapers, in Jail at Cambridge, more than 200 state, county and city police continued their hunt for Lloyd Winslow, said to be the leader, and Harry Whiskers, Orville’s cousin and the fourth member of the gang. Algren Captured Trouserless Algren, who was captured trouserless as a ludicrous climax to one of the most exciting man-hunts ever held In Illinois, talked freely of the kidnaping plot. Throughout his confession ran the story of how Mrs. Mae Yocum outwitted them. Pretending publicly that she was terrorized and would do just as the kidnapers ordered, Mrs. Yocum, It was revealed, dealt secretly with officials, directed efforts to rescue Yocum without paying ransom and selected the psychological moment to lead the bandits Into a trap that resulted In arrest of one of them. Twice, at the direction of the gangsters, Mrs. Yocum sent emissaries to see them and “arrange’* for the ransom. At first they demanded $200,000. They agreed to accept SIOO,OOO, then $50,000 and finally SIO,OOO, Algren said. Watching From Distance In the meantime, Orville Whiskers attempted to negotiate with Ed McKee, a farmer of near Neponset, to rent a house in which to keep Yocum. McKee told officials of the request and Whiskers was arrested. The other members oil the gang did not know of this, neither was the arrest made public.
