THE TIMES

Illini Seek Upset Win Zuppke Shifts Back Field to Stop Boilermakers’ Air Attack. Rv Timet Special CHAMPAIGN, Hl.,* Oct. 31.—Illinois’ hopes for their first Big Ten victory of the season will rest on a revamped back field when Zuppke’s eleven takes the gridiron against Purdue, 1929 champions, here Saturday before a Dad's day crowd which is expected to pass the 30,000 mark. The Boilermakers are the favorites in the eyes of the critics for they bring an outfit of veterans to face the young and less experienced Illini. Just the same, there’s a hopeful feeling in the Orange and Blue camp that Zuppke’s boys have learned enough in their losses to Northwestern and Michigan to play the best game of the season. Providing the revamped back field does not permit itself to be foxed by Purdue pass receivers, it is believed the Illini can make it a nip-and-tuck struggle. Don Munch has been inserted at quarter in an effort to stiffen the aerial defense. Berry, sophomore flash, will be at one half, while the other starter is doubtful. Russell is scheduled to get the call providing injuries do not keep him on the bench in which event Pete Yanuskus will start. Captain Robinson probably will be at full, with Schul+z ready for relief work. PURDUE ON EDGE LAFAYETTE, Ind„ Oct. 31. Purdue’s varsity, keyed to cop their first victory since 1905 from the strong Illinois team and thereby remain in the Big Ten title chase, left here today for Champaign. In Thursday’s final workout Coach Kizer had White at quarter, Purvis and Pope at halves and Yunevich ,at full, alternating with Risk and Kissell, halves, and Horstman, full. The Boilermaker line is in top shape after withstanding Winconsin “power attack” last week and all regulars are ready to start. The game will mark the resumption of football relations with the Illini after eleven years and the Boilermakers’ first invasion of Champaign since 1917.
