Bearers of Gossip Held in Contempt BY MARTHA LEE It's supposed to be a human failing that we love to hear gossip, scandal, tales of woe and ill luck. And yet, if we love such stories so well, why are tale bearers regarded with such complete contempt by most people? A spicy bit of gossip, well told, goes a long way toward enlivening the tea hour. There can be plenty of laughs tucked away in a bit of scandal. But the strange thing is, although we are notoriously fond of such stories, we seldom have any real affection for their narrators. A good gossiper, a good bearer of even mauve colored scandal seldom ip admired. It's Never Appreciated And when a friend, who knows •ome tale he feels should be told for the good of every one concerned, takes it upon himself to tell the sad news, usually he no longer is listed among the freinds. No matter what the intentions are, the result is the same. The friend has defeated his own ends. Getting more specific, what should a woman’s position be in regard to her former husband and his fiance? There's a tickler for Mrs. Post. When a woman knows a man to be unsuitable as a husband, because she has tried and found him wanting, should she pass on the information to another girl who is getting ready to assume the job? Dear Mis* Lee—l do not believe In divorce nor disrupted homes. Yet I am 40. a mother of five children. Ilyins apart from mv husband with mv children. We are very happy. Mv husband supports the children. Mv divorce is only a few days away. I never would return to mv husband because of his treatment of me and the children in the past. Mv husband has become enamoured of a trirl. a divorcee, half his age. He Is past 50. She Is a nice Rlrl of Rood family. I hardly can restrain myself from tellinß her of my past life with the man she Is conslderinß marryinß. I can't bear the thouaht of him rulninß another woman's life as he has tried to ruin mine, althouch I stuck to him for twenty years. The children are discusted with him. He has one child almost as old. as the ylrl he Intends to marry. All of us are interested In his future. He says if I say anvthinß to this Rirt. he will “make It hot” for me and the children. He Is lmnosslble. Should I tell the Riri? UNCERTAIN SUE. You would get no thanks for your trouble, and the result would be nothing like you intended it to be. In such a case, sad as it seems, a person must discover the truth for himself. Relating such tales not only would be considered poor sportsmanship on your part. Your successor even might be led to believe it was a case of sour grapes. And certainly your husband could use any such interference on your part to his own advantage. Perhaps your method of dealing with your husband all these years has been wrong. This girl may be the one to lead him a merry chase, rather than his holding the whip hand. Things have a way of reversing the order on us every once in a while. It is nice of you to be interested in his future and to take such a personal interest in the girl, but I fancy she will be capable of fighting her own battles. If a girl of 25 marries a man of 50, she must have a very definite idea as to what her future will be. Sorority Sets Meeting Theta Beta Delta sorority will hold a business meeting Friday night at the home of Miss Eleanor Eldridge. Plans will be made for pledge services.

Tricornes Find Favor for Winter BY FRANCES PAGET (Copyright, 1930. by Style Sources) NEW YORK, Oct. 24.—1 t would not seem possible that the tricorne could offer so different a personality in headgear when the bicome is so green a memory, and in fact, still is so much in evidence. After all, it actually is merely a matter of one more corner. But the difference is quite tangible, not only in silhouette, but in the demands made on the style of wearing the hat. Tile third comer causes all the newness, especially in the small tricornes that are lately appearing, for some of these newer ones are ignoring the modified lines that were employed in the tricorne of the early season. - The latest, as seen at smart luncheon rendezvous, presents an evenly balanced brim with three corners or points very precisely placed at sides and center front, all the sides being practically equal. That is the sort of tricorne that tests a woman's chic in wearing hats; the elongated sides and generally irregular lines of the season's first tricornes are less demanding. They were so disguised that the three-cornered intention was almost lost. Talbot’s little tricorne model is responsible for the new tricorne type, made, as it is, of felt and in a small silhouette that has three
