Oct. 23—A national campaign to extend the fiveday week to all railroad workers will be launched at Chicago next month when local chairmen of the "big lour" transportation brotherhoods assemble to approve a detailed schedule of the 40-hour week for the various crafts. The plan to extend the shorter work week to 2,000,000 railroad employes has been under consideration by the Association of Railway Labor executives, for productivity and operating costs have convinced leaders of the twenty-one affiliated railway crafts that the five-day week would involve no increased outlay by the roads.
